When I extend the column and fold the legs back, the head ends up above the legs and then I can tilt it down between the legs. More recently I got the GT1555T, for a minimalist travel setup. This has a short column (6.5), so this doesnt work quite as well with the BH-30, since the head ends up between the legs, so you cant quite completely close them. I normally use that with the BH-25 and B2-mAS clamp, which works slightly better. (I took photos to demonstrate, but the B&H reply box provides no way to send them.) Of course, you can always just remove the head.
