Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Is this lens compatible to Fujifilm xt10? Thanks.

A: No, do not think so.

Q: 2. Can I program the focus ring to other function? For example EV in Movie mode on Panasonic G85?

A: No, the focus ring on the Panasonic Leica DG Summilux 15mm f/1.7 ASPH. Lens cannot be reprogrammed. It may only be used to manually adjust the lens' focus.

Q: 3. Will this lens talk to the BMPCC 4k camera and allow control of the iris and the one button push auto focus?

A: Yes it will. This lens will work with the Pocket Cinema Camera 4K for control. You will be able to control the Iris and One Button AF.

Q: 4. Does it have DOF markings on the barrel for hyperfocal distance shooting?

A: No it doesn't.

Q: 5. Does this lens mount on the new Leica CL?

A: I have the Leica DG 15mm, mounted on various Lumix G bodies since I got it: First G7, then G85, now G9. It has a MFT mount, so no it won't mount directly on the Leica CL. There are adapters to mount M lenses on MFT cameras, but I am not aware of a MFT adapter to a Leica CL. Be aware that the CL has an APS-C sensor while the MFT lenses are made for a slightly smaller sensor, so there could be an incompatibility even if you found an adapter.

Q: 6. Does this 15mm f/1.7 lens come with a lens hood and cap?

A: Yes. Heads up though: the lens hood isn't the most secure one I've ever come across. There's a small notch that keeps it in place, but if you brush up against something on accident, it can pop loose relatively easily. It hasn't presented an issue for me in the field to date, it's just something to be aware of.

Q: 7. Does it have OIS?

A: No

Q: 8. lens hood included?

A: Yes and a rubber lens cap that fits into it.

Q: 9. I am concerned about the sun flares and direct light?Any theories!!

A: This lens does include a hood which will help block out stray light to prevent flares.

Q: 10. It fits the GH5 camera?

A: Yes. The following lens will mount the GH5.

This is definitely a top-of-the-line lens and a wonderful addition to the collection of lenses for my Panasonic Lumix G3. Images are tack-sharp with little or no optical aberrations. This is a highly useful lens for landscape photography.

I use this lens on a GX80 camera and much prefer it to my other Lumix 14-140 lens. This lens reminds me of shooting analogue medium format and 35mm where I only have prime lenses... it is well made and has a lovely weight to it.

I've recently got this lens as a companion to my 25mm f1.4 for when I need a wider angle shot. For that purpose it works fantastic but what really sold me is it build quality. The 15mm puts to shame my 25mm with it's all metal body, fstop ring, and metal hood. I wish every lens was built like the 15mm. After getting to hold it at B&H the Olympus 45mm f1.8 felt like a cheap toy by comparison. Even the Olympus 75mm f1.8 felt a bit lacking after using the 15mm. I'm not saying either of those lenses are bad when it comes to optics only the 15mm really opened my eyes to what's possible with build quality. Speaking of optics the lens performs very well giving me sharp images even with the aperture wide open. If you have a Panasonic body and are looking for a wide prime do yourself a favor and pick this one up.

Great lens for the GM5. Nice and compact, great optics, sharp, and perfect for scenic/street photography. Now I can carry a tiny camera that takes great pictures and with an aperture of F1.7 can create a shallow depth of field.

Ive used this lens on my gimbal due to its light weight and low center of gravity, not to mention a very crisp image with a shallow depth of field. All of this for a reasonable price!

I put this on a BMD studio micro. It's really a beautiful lens. Have a few other micro 4/3 lenses and this is clearly the better looking of the bunch.

I'm using it on the new(ish) Oly Pen-F and I think it's a wonderful lens. It's fits the body, the images have a look that is very nice, and it's as sharp as I need.

I had the Oly 17 1.8 which was a fine lens but as I tend to shoot wide, it was often just not wide enough. The 15 has a solid build and edge to edge sharpness stopped down and nearly as good wide open. Here's something to consider - I compared an identical scene shot with the PL15 alongside the P12-32 both at f4 (which is as wide as the 12-32 gets at that FL) and the differences were slight - oh maybe a touch more contrast with the PL15, and a hair better in the corners, but really pretty close. But the advantage of going to f1.7 can't be overlooked, particularly indoors when you are trying to keep the ISO from climbing. I just like primes and I like the build so for me the cost was worth it.

This lens is has extremely fast AF on my panasonic G7. Couple with Depth of Defocus, this special AF will only work on specific Panasonic Bodies. However, I hear it's also fast on Olympus cameras. The aperture is wide enough to get some bokeh separation for half body shots. However, do not expect miracles since this is only a 15mm f1.7 on a four thirds sensor. Color and image rendition is fantastic. Wide open this is sharp, though it gets much sharper when stopped down peaking at f4. Having the aperture on the front end of the lens is a nice touch which means I can customize my wheels to something else. There is also a convenient manual focus switch that overrides the camera's focus settings. The manual focus ring is buttery smooth and makes manual focus during video a breeze. This is certainly a top 4/3 wide angle prime. If it's in your budget, than I would recommend it, otherwise go for the cheaper 20mm 1.7 which is considerably tighter. Build quality is top notch. It's light, small, and delivers excellent overall image rendition.

Got this to supplement the Olympus 17mm f1.8 for my Pen f. The images from this lens seem more defined than the 17mm, which seem smoother. Also, the extra image coverage is useful when using the cameras built in perspective adjustments (which uses/reduces captured image area). CA isn't as well contained (software?) and the aperture dial doesn't function, but these trade-offs are worth it. The images are very nice. It's interesting how Panasonic and Olympus realize images differently. Both good but different characteristics.
