Q: 1. I have a Panasonic GH3, what micro four thirds lens would anyone recommend for capturing outdoor sports videos like soccer? Is the Panasonic Lumix G X Vario PZ 45-175mm f/4.0-5.6 ASPH. Lens a good fit for my purpose? Thanks, Ef

A: Because it has a built in zoom control on the barrel I find it lets me get a decent smooth variable speed zooms for video purposes. So compared to the other Panny micro 4/3 lenses that are really photography oriented this is a good way to go. But don't confuse this with an expensive eng lens. This is not parfocal. So it will be up to the contrast based auto focusing in the GH3 to try to keep things sharp. Depending on the situation and the kind of zoom you're trying to execute the camera may be playing some catch up with your moves. It also doesn't have the kind of zoom range you would find on an eng lens, probably not as fast, and zoom control isn't anywhere as flexible. But if you get used to how it works I don't think it's a bad choice. Especially for the cost. I have a GH3 as well and have been most satisfied with the performance of this lens on it. It's got decent image stabilization. But for video you'll definitely want to use a good tripod and fluid head. As for the quality of the image, I'm no gear head so I can't comment on it technically, but I will say that I have been very happy the results. So yes, with a little patience and effort I think this can work successfully for your purpose - as long as you keep your expectations realistic.

Q: 2. please confirm if this model is compatible with the Blackmagic Design Studio Camera 4K plus ?

A: Yes, Panasonic Lumix G X Vario PZ 45-175mm f/4-5.6 ASPH. POWER O.I.S. The lens is mount and electronically compatible with Blackmagic Design Studio Camera 4K Plus BH #BLSTUDC4KPL.

Q: 3. I have a Panasonic GH3. What is a good micro four thirds lens for capturing sports video for indoor volleyball? I'd like to capture mid-shots, close-ups and wide. Thanks, Ef

A: This is a fine lens with a good zoom range for the price. The power zoom is a nice feature but you may find that you will out grow this lens quickly. When shooting and using the zoom, you need to shoot at f/5.6 else when you zoom wide, the image will get brighter. In addition, you may want a faster lens when shooting indoor sports.I moved quickly to the Olympus M.ZUIKO DIGITAL ED 40-150mm f/2.8 PRO Lens. It is fast, very sharp and with the conversion factor, it is a 80 to 300mm lens (perfect for sports). It also has a 1.4x teleconverter design just for it which turns your 300mm into a 420mm.

Q: 4. Does this lens extend / get larger when zooming or does it have internal zoom like the Panasonic 35-100 mm 2.8 keeping the same size in length?

A: No, it does not extend as it has internal zoom.

Q: 5. is this good for the gx85?

A: We bought this lens for GH4 and like it very much. Have at it.

Q: 6. Can you use this on an Inspire 2 drone?

A: No, the Panasonic Lumix G X Vario PZ 45-175mm f/4-5.6 ASPH. POWER O.I.S. Lens is not a compatible with the DJI Zenmuse X5S with No Lens on the DJI Inspire 2 Quadcopter.

Q: 7. I am considering this lens for use on a drone. Any change in configuration will throw off my weight and balance. How much does this lens extend when zoomed fully?

A: This lens uses an internal zoom and the actual size of the lens does not change.

Q: 8. Can the OIS be turned off for use on a tripod?

A: With the Panasonic Lumix G X Vario PZ 45-175mm f/4-5.6 ASPH. POWER O.I.S. Lens the stabilization can be turned off from the cameras menu.

Q: 9. If I wanted to buy a lens hood for the Panasonic 45-175mm F/4.0-5.6, what size should I be looking for please?

A: 46mm but I don't see one being sold separately. As the other answer says there should be one coming in the box.

Q: 10. Anyone use this lens on an Olympus E-M5 II? How is the image quality when used on this body?

A: Excellent, especially for smooth zoom while taking movies.

compact, lightweight, easy to use power zoom (which is very helpful if you travel and want others to use your camera). Seems to take clear zoom pics from my usage so far.

Not a bargain item but seems solidly built and works effortlessly and well. Also super lightweight and compact. Great addition to my Panasonic DMC-GX7.

I replaced my Lumix 45-200mm lens with this because it is much lighter for travel. It is sharp, focuses well, and has great bokeh.

So far, I love this lens. I purchased this lens for my Panasonic GX9 for stills and for video. It is compact with the internal zoom and is lightweight for travel, It has a decent zoom range for my use. The image stabilization works really nicely even with my shaky hands. But having my tripod for the 175mm end is always a big help. Power zoom feature is smooth and handy for video. I like the reversible lens hood. In summary, for my use and what I was looking for in a telephoto zoom lens, this offers a great value.

This lens is very underrated. I find it to be very sharp, with excellent contrast. The OIS works great as well. It focuses extremely fast, and is so light and small, I carry it everywhere.

I suddenly had to find a power zoom lens for smooth zooming while recording video. I am very new to these types of cameras, know very little about lenses, and had very little time to figure something out. So I was very thankful that Panasonic now has a power zoom lens.

I read as much as I could about adapters, and other lenses - some which had better - but I needed to know absolutely that what I got fit my GH4 & would work immediately.

It did & was excellent - very smooth zoom, easy, easy, easy! Also the location of the zoom button is fairly convenient.

I was shooting outside first in blazing sun, then an hour later in heavy cloud cover. perfect for my use in both. I needed to zoom in on something the size of a soda bottle on a post 250 yards away.

Simple to use, and it worked right away. Major KUDDOS to B&H for getting this delivered a full day before it was due. I paid for the two day & it arrived early which gave me that 2nd day to get the video just in time.

Because it's a 45-175 (35mm Equivalent Focal Length: 90 to 350mm) it is not going to be as useful as my 14-140 is, but I am so glad I got this because the power zoom also holds the focus much better on manual focus. It's not parfocal, but much better than what I was trying to do with the other lens.

Also - Thank you B&H for having the filter with it. I'll update this if I have any changes when I have used it a little more - Now though, I really need to find a power zoom that is in that 14-140 range....

This lens is TINY. But it is powerful. It can pull in anything with it's focal range equivalent 90-350mm in FF. Doesn't extend when zooming or focusing. Fast and accurate AF.

I bought this to put on a GH5 II because I needed a bit more zoom to get across our sanctuary than the 35-100mm I had been using. Wow - the first time I saw the image on the monitor I knew I had made the right choice. Sharp & beautiful. I've used it for video/livestreaming only so far, and on a tripod, but in those situations it totally delivers. Great price for what you get.
