Related Questions and Answers
Q: 1. What app do I need on my iPhone with this? Does it interface with GarageBand?
A: The Saramonic SmartRig+ can be used with GarageBand or any recording app that is compatible with your iPhone. The SmartRig+ is simply an audio interface that provides a way to connect an instrument or microphone with your iPhone.
Q: 2. Does the headphone out need a cell phone app or does it work without a cell phone?
A: Per Saramonic's manual, the output on this is for audio from the phone only. Most audio recording apps support monitoring, but many video recording apps do not. http://www.saramonic.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/03/SmartRig-user-manual.pdf For video, I would recommend considering filmic pro.
Q: 3. How long is battery life with this unit?
A: The battery life on the Saramonic SmartRig+ varies greatly, and is heavily dependent on the devices being plugged into it. You can get anything from a couple of hours to even 20+. Microphones (dynamics, ribbons, condensers, wireless) have different needs and will therefore draw different amounts of power. It is best to be prepared with extra 9v batteries should the need for one arises.
Q: 4. Is hdphn out amplified at all? ? Can it monitor audio from the mic on a camera with no headphone out?
A: Yes, the Saramonic SmartRig+ 2-Channel XLR Microphone Audio Mixer features an amplified headphone output which can be used to monitor audio in real time.
Q: 5. How does it adapt to the discrete mic level, instrument-level, or line level of inputted sources?
A: To change the input level on the Saramonic SmartRig+ 2-Channel XLR Microphone Audio Mixer, simply turn the knobs labelled 1 and 2 until you achieve desired input level.
Q: 6. Is this still supported by Saramonic? I can't find the manual or the unit on the Saramonic website.
A: Yes, A user manual can be located using the following link https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1443713-REG/saramonic_smartrig_uc_two_channel_audio_interface_for.html
Q: 7. Is the bottom mount 1/4-20 ?
A: Yes, the SmartRig+ does provide a 1/4"-20 threaded mounting point on the bottom to attach to a tripod, mic stand, camera, or other device.
Q: 8. Does it work with rechargeable batteries?
A: I'm sure it would.
Q: 9. does this product act as a mixer that can increase the signal to noise ratio, too?
A: As a passive mixer, the Movo Photo AM100 2-Channel TRS 3.5mm Microphone Audio Mixer would only act to combine two battery-powered microphones—one to the left channel and the other to the right channel—to adjust the level between them. It would not act to increase the signal-to-noise ratio the way an active mixer would.
Q: 10. Will this device help to eliminate hiss if I connect it as a preamp between the shotgun microphone (600 Ohms) powered by the 1.5V battery and the Tascam DR-40 recorder?
A: Not necessarily. It would be helpful to know which shotgun microphone you will be using and how it is connecting to the recorder so we can do a bit of troubleshooting first to determine the source of the noise. Please contact us by phone or through live chat on the website and we can work with you directly to find the best solution.
