When using an external mic with a TRRS plug on your iPhone mounted in a rig or gimbal that blocks the lightning port, this allows you to use the lightning port without either crimping the cable or moving your iPhone so far away from the rig as to exacerbate balance problems. You only need move your iPhone about 19/32 away from the obstructive gimbal. I could not find any competing products. 5
