The Nano L Natural Night Light Pollution Filter from K&F Concept is a round 52mm filter that helps reduce the unwanted effect of light pollution, giving photographs taken outdoors at night more contrast and clarity. Light pollution adversely affects the quality of nighttime city and architectural photographs, as well as scientific astrophotography in urban areas where artificial light sources are prevalent. This natural light filter blocks the wavelengths of light created by mercury vapor, sodium lights, and other low-CRI lights often used as streetlights. These lights are usually yellow/orange and are the primary cause of light pollution around cities. This light pollution makes capturing beautiful nightscapes near cities very difficult.

Made of German optical glass, this filter features a durable aluminum filter ring with a 52mm thread. It incorporates Nano coating layer technology with waterproof, scratch-resistant surfaces that effectively protect it from water, oil, fingerprints, and minor abrasions.

  • Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. what is the light reduction in stops?

A: Because the Kase 150x150mm Wolverine Neutral Night Light Pollution Filter selectively blocks only certain wavelengths of light (yellow light from sodium-vapor lamps, mercury-vapor lamps, or low Color Rendering Index LEDs), there is no overall assignment of light-blocking capability for this filter.

Q: 2. I'm using a B&W 77mm KSM HTC polarizer. Will this filter thread on to my polarizer?

A: Your B+W High-Transmission Circular Polarizer would have a front thread to accept another filter like the K&F Concept ND8-ND2000 Nano-X Variable ND Filter with Multi-Resistant Coating (77mm).

Q: 3. does this filter cast any color stint such as magenta on the photographs taken in the night on New york citi sky/building photographs?

A: Yes it is a slight magenta cast which when used in proximity to city lights, evens out the warm colorcast from the city lights.

Q: 4. If I use a 77mm step up ring will it work with my magnetic ring on the lens?

A: The Kase Neutral Night Light Pollution Filter (82mm) is not a magnetic filter. The Kase Neutral Night Light Pollution Filter (82mm) is manufactured from aluminum. As such, unless your filter has front filter threads that may be used with the Kase Neutral Night Light Pollution Filter (82mm) or the 77mm step-up ring you wish to purchase, your results may vary.

Q: 5. Does this filter work with the magnetic system?

A: Yes, the Kase Wolverine Neutral Night Light Pollution Filter with Magnetic Adapter Ring (82mm) works with the Kase circular filter magnetic system.

Q: 6. how do I know what to choose? 100x100 or 150mmx150 or 180x180mm? I don't have a holder yet either, so want to get everything to fit my 62mm ring lens and my 67mm lens ring

A: Hi--many filters will fit in a standard 100x100mm filter holder (probably the most common filter size); you need to choose among the filter holders (you will also need a compatible adapter ring for the lens you're using): https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/search?q=filter%20holders&filters=fct_category%3Afilter_holders_3837%2Cfct_filter-system_2715%3A4in-100mm-wide-filters

Q: 7. Will this filter also work with the R8?

A: The Kase Clip-In Neutral Night Light Pollution Filter for Canon EOS R7/R10 Camera will not work with the Canon EOS R8 Mirrorless Camera.

Q: 8. does this filter pass 5577 angstroms? I wish to pass 5577 for auroral photography, but otherwise block Na 5890 & other street lamp emissions. Maybe i can get a transmission spectrum for this filter? Otherwise, can you recommend an ideal auroral/light pollution filter? thank you.

A: Unfortunately, for whatever reason NiSI does not list the angstroms for this filter. However, I would take their word that it is: Reduces Light Pollution in Night Sky, Blocks Yellow Sodium-Vapor Light, Blocks Yellow Mercury-Vapor Light, and Blocks Yellow Light from Low CRI LEDs. If it does not, they will lose customers.

Q: 9. How does the K&F Light Pollution Filter compare to the Hoya Starscape Light Pollution Filter?

A: This K&F filter would offer a knurled ring and water/scratch resistance over the Hoya model.

Q: 10. The spec mention setting your WB to Daylight. Did you do that? I shoot in RAW so I’m not sure why a WB setting is necessary.

A: Although one might shoot a RAW file, it is best to make as many adjustments in-camera so that the post production is minimal, hence the recommendation for setting the white balance to daylight.

I got fed up with threaded filters jammed together, such as when combining a CPL with an ND. Magnetic filters also save me precious time when preparing a shot in rapidly changing light.

I looked into all the magnetic systems available and chose K&F on the basis of selection and cost. Optical quality is right up there with threaded filters for which I'd paid much more. I am using K&F magnetic in 49, 52, 67, 77 and 82 mm sizes.

K&F has two magnetic adapter base rings. This model is an open ring. The other selection is a base ring fitted with a protective U.V. filter (rear side threaded, front magnetic flange). When in adverse conditions I switch to that, but for most use I have only these open rings on my lens, adding my CPL and NDs as desired.
