The lightweight aluminum Camera Cage from SmallRig provides accessory mounting and protection for your Canon EOS R5 C, R5, or R6 camera. This formfitting cage maintains access to the camera's controls, battery, and SD card slot, and it features a variety of mounting options.

The camera mounts onto the cage using a single 1/4"-20 screw, and there are anti-twist pins and a pad on the base to prevent the camera from twisting or scratching. In addition to multiple 1/4"-20 and 3/8"-16 accessory threads, the cage features several ARRI-style locating holes to prevent accessories from twisting when mounted on the cage.

One side features an integrated NATO rail, and there is a shoe mount on top. Integrated strap slots allow you to add a separately available neck or wrist strap. A screwdriver for securing the camera screw is stored on the bottom of the cage.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Will this fit the new Canon r6 Mark ii?

A: Yes, the SmallRig Camera Cage Kit with Cable Clamp for Canon R5/R6 will fit the Canon EOS R6 Mark II Mirrorless Camera.

Q: 2. Do I need a Nato plate for a Nato Top handle or can I attach a NATO top handle natively on this cage?

A: The SmallRig Camera Cage for Canon EOS R5 C, R5, and R6 has one NATO attachment, on the side.

Q: 3. Will this fit the R5 mark ii?

A: Yes, the SmallRig Camera Cage for Canon EOS R5 C, R5, and R6 is compatible with the Canon EOS R5 Mark II Mirrorless Camera (BH #CAER52).

Q: 4. Forgive my ignorance, but could B&H create a combo for a SmallRig rail sistem with its different tripod mounts?

A: no unfortunately B&H can not create a kit for this item

Q: 5. Will this cage accommodate the battery grip, BG-R10? It certainly doesn’t appear to fit the R5 w/ the battery grip attached. Is there a cage that will make use of the battery grip? Thanks for any help you might provide!

A: No, this will not accommodate the battery grip. There is a yet to be released cage coming from Kondor Blue - https://bhpho.to/36woidc - but no exact release date has been announced and we have not received images for the product.

Q: 6. Can this fit the Eos rebel T7?

A: Unfortunately, this cage is only meant for the Canon EOS R5 and R6.

Q: 7. It would appear this "Camera Cage" is different than an L-Bracket and while it looks to have an Arca-Swiss mount on the base, does not have that on the side allowing the camera to be mounted vertically, correct? Does SmallRig make an L-Bracket for this camera? (If not, perhaps they should).

A: Yup! You're absolutely correct. Camera cages encompass the whole camera and are primarily meant to be used horizontally. They are typically used by videographers for mounting various video accessories onto their camera, whereas L-brackets usually only cover two out of four sides of the camera and allow the camera to be mounted vertically on tripods for photography. SmallRig did have an L-bracket for the R5/R6, but it is not currently available (as of Jan 3, 2021). I would recommend either the Really Right Stuff L-bracket (https://bhpho.to/2JJCI2q) or the Kirk L-bracket (https://bhpho.to/2X2Vi8C) for the R5/R6.

Q: 8. Will this also work with Canon EOS-R?

A: No, the SmallRig Camera Cage Kit with Cable Clamp for Canon R5/R6 does not fit the Canon EOS-R body. This model is for the EOS-R, https://bhpho.to/3NvbZ4k .

Q: 9. Can I mount this on a monopod from the top?

A: Yes, that is possible.

Q: 10. Can it fit the eosr?

A: No, this will only fit the Canon R5, R5C, and R6. The cage for the EOS R is: BH #SMCCC2803

Love how functional and versatile the cage is. I added a NATO top handle with a videomic pro- using these with the Rode Wireless Go, I can slip the handle off and have a wireless interview mic for more targeted sound capture.

The cage works just great, for holding the camera, attaching accessories and protecting the camera. I tripped with camera hitting the sidewalk, the cage saved the camera.

I used the SmallRig camera cage on my Canon R5 for a few weeks until my battery grip arrived and now I have to decide which one I need the most for each shoot. I always keep the SmallRig in my camera bag, it is pretty easy to attach and detach from the camera and gives me more connecting points around my camera. I have a few of these for all my still and video cameras so I'm familiar with how the work and that provides me with a lot of options. The cage also allows easy access to the battery housing so swapping out batteries with the cage on doesn't pose much of a problem.
