Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Can I use my beats headphones with this mic?

A: The Shure MV7 Podcast Microphone can be used with any wired headphones that have a 3.5mm connector. It cannot connect to wireless headphones.

Q: 2. ...can I use 2 Shure MV7 on 1 computer connected via USB at the same time?

A: The computer will only recognize one USB mic. Since the MV7 provides both USB and XLR output, you can use a USB audio interface with two XLR mic inputs. The interface would then connect to the computer via USB enabling use of both mics at the same time.

Q: 3. What is the thread size on the mount connection? Will it fit with Auray MS-5230T Tripod Microphone Stand?

A: The Shure MV7 Podcast Microphone has a yoke mount with a 5/8" thread, which is the same thread size as the Auray MS-5230T Tripod Microphone Stand, so they are directly compatible for use together.

Q: 4. Just bought the MV7 - is it safe/recommended to just leave it plugged in to my PC's USB and be on at all times? Or should I plug/unplug as needed? Does it matter?

A: Yes, you can leave the Shure MV7 Podcast Microphone connected to your computer at all times without causing damage to the mic or computer.

Q: 5. Is the USB bidirectional - e.g. can I hear other participants on ZOOM using just this device ? (I normally use an RME firewire Interface with 2 way audio and XLR mics)

A: Yes, the USB interface is bidirectional. When you set up the mic with your computer, select the MV7 as your audio input and audio output device in your computer's system preferences, and then you will be able to hear the audio with the other participants in your Zoom meeting when monitoring through the mic's headphone jack.

Q: 6. Want to use this with an XLR connected to a Zoom H5. Does the mic draw power from the Zoom?

A: The Shure MV7 Podcast Microphone is a dynamic microphone, so it does not require phantom power when connected via XLR.

Q: 7. why is the silver version cheaper than the black one?

A: B&H priced it that way, but silver and black are the same microphones just a different color. Black is more popular thats why price is a little higher. Hope this helps.

Q: 8. How large is the capsule in the MV7, possible to get some specs?

A: Shure has not provided specs for the capsule used inside the Shure MV7 Podcast Microphone.

Q: 9. why is the silver one cheaper than the black?

A: Sometimes items that are available in different color finishes can be priced differently. It's possible that we may have been able to get a better deal from Shure for a large quantity of the MV7 mics in the silver finish which would be why there is a lower sale price for the silver finish compared to the sale price for the black finish. The silver and black models are identical other than the color of the finish.

Q: 10. is there a shock mount that will work with the MV7? and what is the best pop filter to use with it?

A: The MV7 has a built-in shock mount as well as a built-in pop filter so a separate shock mount and pop filter are not necessary. The mic's yoke mount can be attached directly to a studio arm or standard mic stand. The studio arm may provide better isolation. Like the SM7b which also has a built-in shock mount, the MV7 is not designed to be used with a separate shock mount. Although there is a built-in pop filter, i is possible to add a separate pop filter such as the Auray PFSS-55 Pop Filter with Gooseneck and Springloaded Clamp (B&H # AUPFSS55). The springloaded clamp makes it easy to attach to the mic's yoke mount or a studio arm or stand. You can find a variety of other compatible pop filters listed under the "Accessories" tab on the MV7 item page.

I decided to upgrade over the Blue Yetti and this mic works great. It takes a minute to get the settings correct for your workspace but does a good job of eliminating low-frequency noise without losing clarity.
The only con I can think of is the mic volume could be louder at 100% via usb. That's not a major issue if you use a DAW. Well worth the investment.

Plug it in, download the ShurePlus MOTIV app for your particular device, and you're good to go. It's a great sounding mic. What more can you ask for?

The microphone works well with my Samson boom arm (38) , and works well over USB. I don't have an audio interface for XLR at the moment but it seems you can get a little bit more quality out of the mic through XLR. The noise rejection is very good, and so much better than a cardioid mic. I use this to work from home, and even when kids are running upstairs and my chair squeaks, no one can hear. Shure's software is also quite good, and has a lot of customization like profiles you can set and different effects.

I jut got this mic w/ stand and I like how easy it is to use. The touch modes work well thus far and the mic has good recording sound. I plugged it to my Mac book Pro and I have been able to record using audacity. I like that I can manually adjust the recording modes using the Shure APP.

The Shure MV7 replaced my Rode NT1A and Scarlet 2i2 3rd Gen and I couldn't be happier. The quality is exceptional and it's very convenient as I often record audiobooks while away from a studio on my travels (major wanderlust!) Recommend!

I have another review that I wrote about this mic, but B&H's website doesn't appear to let me update that review.

I've now been using this mic almost daily for over a year. The audio is crisp and clear, background noise is kept to a minimum, and people on the other end of the meeting/phone call give compliments on the detail that this mic captures. I used to use a condenser mic, but that also had the annoying feature of picking up a lot of 60Hz hum. This mic doesn't do that and I didn't have to make any adjustments to the room either.

For the person who mentioned they couldn't fit it in a shockmount, it has one internally. That is why the mic is the size that it is.

For those complaining about the USB port, mine hasn't had any issues. I accidentally bent the micro usb connector on the cheap cable they shipped with it and the mic survived just fine. The cable, on the other hand, was useless after that. I solved this problem by finding a 90 degree USB adapter so that the connector isn't pointing straight out the back of the mic. It now sits mostly flush and swiveling the mic is more likely to cause the adapter to disconnect at the other end.

If your laptop, like mine, is usb-c only, don't try to buy long usb-c to usb-c cables. They are crazy expensive. Instead, try to buy a usb-c to mini or micro usb-b cable. They are much cheaper. My setup is usb-c to micro usb (10 feet), then an adapter from micro-usb to usb-c (1 inch), and then finally a short usb-c to 90 degree micro-usb adapter (6 inches).

First of all, the quality! The QUALITY IS OFF THE HOOK! (Sorry people that I was screaming at this review section). I say the quality because I'm from using Rode Video Shotgun Pro mic on my Canon 80D, so seeing this Shure MV7 mic for the first time, I was stunned by the quality has been built out of it! It almost feels like the first time I saw Dolce and Gabbana brown leather jacket with gold plate on the left chest! (Note that I used the word saw, NOT bought. It was too expensive and the quality is... ) Back to the review!

Second was quality! (Seriously? Quality again?) I meant the voice quality. It so crisp that I want to listen to my voice over and over and over (I don't have great sexy voice but I just have normal Asian voice with excitement).

The touch control was another part that so good to use. The touch sensor is pretty good (I think the best one is iPhone so if iPhone touch sensor is 10, this mic is 7.5).

The last but not the least, the setup. It's so easy. It's getting the power source from the connection (I used USB-C on my MacBook Pro). All cables are included which is another bonus for me. So all you gotta do is plug in.

PS. Those of you who are going to use tripod at your home, recommend to get thread adapter that sells in B&H unless you get your own mic stand. I bought Auray TT-6220 Telescoping Tabletop Microphone Stand (Black) here. But when I wanted to use on my small tripod, I needed it.

Hope this review helps you to make purchasing decision. Thank you.

The best USB microphone I've ever used. Paired with their software NVIDIA broadcast. It's 10/10. Amazing sound quality and very clean overall. I only wish it didn't have the logo on it from both sides, but that's easily fixable. Overall, for anyone looking at USB mics. This one definitely should be on your list!

The quality of sound from the microphone is incredible via USB & far exceed my expectations. The boom arm is amazing quality & cable management is fantastic. Setup is very easy for the boom arm & microphone. USB cable is very long that comes with the microphone which give you a lot of flexibility of the location of the microphone.

Able to place it below, just out of frame on close-in head & shoulders video, and still have enough gain for great sound. This silver version was reduced in priced and advertised as open box, yet it arrived as a brand new unit. Very pleased.
