The 48" MBA48 Microphone Boom Arm from Samson is designed for use with microphone accessories and in radio, podcast, or home studio setups. It features an articulating arm that provides a maximum horizontal/vertical reach of 48" for flexible and convenient microphone placement.

The MBA48 features internal springs that allow for silent and effortless positioning during recording or live broadcasts. With two mounting options included, the MBA48 can attach to a table or a desk with a C-clamp mount or be more permanently fixed to a flange mount. In addition, it is built with 5/8"-27 mic clip threading and supports weights up to five pounds.

A: This stand will work with the included clip from the NTG2.

Q: 4. Does the joint at the mic maintain it's angle as you move the boom arm? Or do you have to reposition the mic each time the boom arm is moved?

A: The action of the spring inside the arm maintains a proportionate angle between the bottom and middle joints. Due to the nature of the spring-loaded arm, the joints do not naturally move independently of each other. It is however possible to keep the arm steady during adjustment without too much difficulty, and each joint can be manually adjusted if the opposite section is held in place with your other hand.

A: Use a bit of mineral oil or WD-40. The spring tension will loosen wth time. There is no tensino adjustment.

Q: 10. Is it possible to mount/suspend this arm from above?

A: The MBA38 is not intended to suspend from above. It does come with two types of mounts -- a clamp style mount and permanent flange mount. The stem for the arm inserts into the mount from the top. You could attach the clamp mount to a shelf and then position the arm so the mic comes downward, but the arm can not be mounted upside down.
