The Tiffen 4.5" Round Pro-Mist 1/2 Filter helps to reduce the value of the highlights while noticeably lowering the overall contrast. This filter is especially useful for smoothing out and softening facial wrinkles and other blemishes. While designed for use with movies, this filter can also be used for fashion and beauty applications. Unlike a traditional diffusion or soft focus filter, Pro-Mist filters provide little loss of detail across the image. The 1/2 density provides a small amount of contrast and highlight reduction and allows for a soft, pastel-like quality of light.

Tiffen filters are made using ColorCore technology, a process that involves laminating the filter substrate between 2 pieces of optical glass and grinding flat to a tolerance of 1/10,000th of an inch.

A: This is a type of soft filter but in a way is somewhat of an ND in that it cuts out about 1 stop of light.

I've been using it on Canon C200 paired with Sigma 18-35mm lens. This filter really takes off the sharpness of the camera and gives more hazier look on the highlights. 5

Love the 1/8th Pro-mist filter. Subtlety helps soften the edges, effectively removing the harsh video look as well as making the lights bloom without calling attention to itself. Recommended! 5

This filter works best for actors faces. I wouldn't just slap it on in any random situation. If not used properly, it can just add a haze to your image that can take away from the quality of your lighting the scene. 5

Like most people, I saw a few reviews on YouTube about Black Pro Mist filters. Supposedly, BPM filters take a little edge off video images captured with digital lens. I thought this would make a nice addition to my arsenal. Unfortunately, I have a matte box system which require 4x4 filters. The cheapest filter is roughly $250. Not really feasible for testing out purposes. In addition to that, my current matte box setup uses both filter trays for ND filters. Luckily, Tiffen offers ascrew on filter for $150 cheaper than a 4x4 alternative. This option pretty much solved all my problems, so I went for it! Thanks to an upcoming shoot that involved a female model, I have to do much testing. I took the filter straight to my client, and tested it out in the field. Much to my surprise, the result were utterly amazing! I got the 1/2 because I want to see a dramatic difference between filter and no filter. This filter under the right lights gave my model's skin the creamiest glow I've ever seen. After corrections and grading, I was blown after with the result! I got a second chance to use this filter setup again on a comedy skit. After correction and grading, the results were mind blowing! There was one point during the grading process, I chose a unique lut, and my footage looked like an eighties horror movie. It was so spot on, you already know what I'm doing for my next project. Full disclaimer: I shoot on a Sony A73, and some extremely sharp native Sony lens. I would only recommend if you are shooting under similar condition. If you're shooting on a setup that give you soft footage looking footage, this filter will only make it softer. 5
