The Tiffen 4.5" Round 81D Light Balancing Filter helps to decrease the color temperature by 500K in order to warm the image slightly in order to match the color quality of illumination. When using an 81D filter, you will be able to attain 3200K balance when the prevailing light source is 3700K. The warming effect of this filter requires a 0.6-stop increase in exposure for normal results.

This filter is made using ColorCore technology, a process that involves laminating the filter substrate between 2 pieces of optical glass and grinding flat to a tolerance of 1/10,000th of an inch.

Beautifully blows out the highlights, lightens the overall image, but most importantly, does t loose subject sharpness.

Pleased with this filter and would recommend to anyone who is looking to get a more film look straight from the camera shooting with DSLR’s

...but only if you're into the look.

Me personally I'm into them. They work for me, my workflow, and style. Purchased a 1/4 and 1/8. I feel to my eye:

- 1/4 is great to use for general use (well lit conditions and spaces that don't completely blow out light sources and practicals, but still gives me the diffused, organic, soft image that I'm seeking). 1/4 in dark environments feels a little forced stylistically and too dreamy in certain situations.

- 1/8 is great in darker conditions (night shoots, dark bedrooms or office with some practicals in the frame, etc.). To my eye it does in dark conditions, what 1/4 does in brighter conditions. 1/8 in daylight conditions doesn't give me enough of the diffused/organic/soft look that I'm seeking.

Of course, this is just a personal preference and what I my eye is interpreting. I'm sure I'll break my own rules many times, depending on the situation and shooting conditions :)

But I'm impressed and they're great combined with the GH5 + Sigma 18-35mm (metabones) combo. I'm probably going to purchase two more of each just as back-ups, soon. They're going to get used a lot. I can already tell. Here's to making good investments *Cheers*

This thing is solid, works great! 1/8 is not enough, 1/2 is to much

This filter does just what it is supposed to; it provides a subtle reduction in contrast and a light smoothing of facial features without impacting the overall detail, color or exposure of the scene. Great for providing a slightly less-harsh image for shots like interviews or medium to close shots of the face. For more of an effect, try the 1/4, 1/2 or full filters.

Nice filter, 1/8 works great to kill some of the digital look on my GH4.

The first filter I received from B&H was damaged, but B&H having a good return policy let me return it without a hassle (and they paid for the return shipping!). Now for the filter, the filter is good. I will buy the 1/2 strength because the 1/4 just doesn't knock out enough of the sharpness on skin on the c100 Mark ii; though it does give a nice bloom around the highlights. The build quality is nice and I have yet to run into a problem with it getting stuck on any of my lenses. Now I will say that when put on a sensi step down filter ring it was a struggle to get off, but that may be because I over tightened it, time will tell. Overall I'm happy with this purchase.

Long story short, this takes that clinical and digital look and throws it in the garbage. Now, this is a review for the Black Pro Mist 1/2 filter which is fairly strong. I use this particular strength for wedding films as it gives off this really lovely soft, semi-bloomy, dreamy love look to the footage.

On most of my other projects, I use a 1/8 Black Pro Mist.

If you're looking at purchasing this filter, then I'm sure you're aware of the benefits; better highlight rolloff, skin smoothing, etc. But what I'd like to say from my tests is that it doesn't degrade your overall quality at all. I've tried many filtration solutions in the past, and the Black Pro Mist has been by far, my favorite. If you're looking to give your footage that film look, then no look further.
