Designed for entertainment, including streaming, gaming, and viewing, the EW3280U 32" 16:9 4K HDR FreeSync IPS Monitor from BenQ uses their proprietary HDRi technology and an integrated sensor to detect ambient light levels and assess on-screen images, allowing for customized color performance, detail, contrast, and image clarity. All of this helps to ensure details aren't lost in dark shadows and bright areas aren't overexposed. Stuttering delays and screen tearing are also virtually eliminated, thanks to AMD FreeSync technology, which dynamically adapts the display's refresh rate to that of your graphics card.

The EW3280U features a 3840 x 2160 native resolution with a refresh rate of 60 Hz, as well as an In-Plane Switching (IPS) panel, support for 1.07 billion colors, a widescreen 16:9 aspect ratio, a static contrast ratio of 1000:1, 350 cd/m2 brightness in SDR Mode and 400 cd/m2 in HDR mode, 137 ppi, and a 5 ms (GtG) response time. Using the 178° horizontal and vertical viewing angles, it is possible to watch content from virtually any position. This display has two HDMI 2.0 ports and one DisplayPort, plus a USB Type-C port that provides up to 60W of charging power, as well as video, audio, and data connectivity. Audio can be output using the 3.5mm headphone jack, as well as the dual 2W speakers and 5W subwoofer.

BenQ has engineered the EW3280U with support for 95% of the DCI-P3 color gamut, and their eye-care technology will help ensure greater user comfort during extended use. To further help improve viewing and accessibility, the EW3280U features a vertical tilt of -5 to 15°.

HDRi is your best defense against the dark. A built-in sensor detects ambient light levels and simultaneously assesses and adjusts on-screen images. Customized color performance, detail contrast, and image clarity deliver sharp images. Enjoy a visual experience that draws you into your favorite movies and games.

A nearly invisible sensor detects ambient light and evaluates screen content. Then, it optimizes display brightness and color temperature for an improved image.

BenQ's proprietary HDRi technology improves image contrast and clarity for greater details. Dark corners reveal what they're hiding, and bright areas are not overexposed.

Saturation and balance are refined for a refined color experience. HDRi takes color to the next level of accuracy and intensity.

BenQ entertainment monitors are designed around complete immersion. HDRi tech and 2.1-channel integrated sound give you cinematic picture quality and more immersive audio delivery. The EW3280U draws you into the action no matter if you're streaming, gaming, or viewing.

The EW3280U is built to entertain. Clear images and vivid colors combine with crisp audio for greater realism. Combine that with its 24p cinematic frame rate and you'll experience movies and games on a different level.

With the EW3280U, BenQ turns an ear towards auditory innovation. 2.1-channel sound and a Digital Signal Processor (DSP) deliver a customizable audio experience. The dual speakers are also supported by a subwoofer for wider bass frequencies.

The versatility of this monitor lets you determine when, where, and how you binge watch or game. Adjust volume or other settings with ease, even from across the room, thanks to an included remote control. On the monitor, there is also an integrated 5-key navigator and a volume wheel.

BenQ's eye-care technologies help reduce eye fatigue while ensuring greater user comfort after a long period of use.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Aside from the internals, is this the exact same monitor (panel and stand) as the PD3200U?

A: The panel types are the same but the stand dimensions are different.

Q: 2. What's the difference between a monitor having 100% Rec 709 offcially listed in its specs - like you do for some monitors - and this particular monitor having a Rec 709 mode, but that's not listed in its specs? Is its' Rec 709 mode less than the 100% seen on other monitors?

A: This monitor has 95% DCI-P3 which includes more than 100% of Rec 709.

Q: 3. Can someone please confirm the depth dimension in the stand? Above it says 223.6 (8.8"). But I've read 13.4" elsewhere. My desk is not very deep, but I was really sold on this monitor.

A: The stand has a 5.7" depth.

Q: 4. The max brightness here is listed at 250 which is well below the lower priced ASUS pro art pa329c which seems to have equal specs otherwise. Why would one pay more for this - with seemingly inferior specs? I feel I’m missing something. Any input is appreciated. Regardless, the 250 max brightness is concerning to me since most other monitors in this class seem to far exceed that.

A: If you are looking for a professional photo editing monitor, while some can go higher, the brightness will ultimately have an effect on how accurate the image is when you are looking at it. For example, if you have an Adobe RGB workflow, the recommended target brightness to properly display that color space is 160 nits which is much lower than what most people might think. In the end, it will ultimately depend on what your specific workflow needs are and the color spaces that you work with. If you have any other questions, please reach out to pc@bhphotovideo.com so we can discuss further.

Q: 5. Is it matte or glossy finish? All review says matte but the spec here says glossy?

A: It's matte. I might add that it's the darkest (least reflective) matte I've seen. It shows no reflection of my wife's bright monitor and lamp, which is directly across the room.

Q: 6. Does this monitor have the 90 degree rotation feature?

A: The BenQ EW3280U 32" 16:9 4K HDR FreeSync IPS Monitor does not have rotation capability.

Q: 7. Monitor with stand. Can you adjust the height?

A: Height Adjustment for the BenQ SW321C 32" 16:9 4K HDR IPS Photo and Video Editing Monitor is 5.91" / 150 mm, as well as Rotation Adjustment 90°; Swivel Adjustment 90° (-45 to 45°) and Tilt Adjustment -5 to 20°

Q: 8. WIll the MacBook Air M1 support this display through DisplayPort?

A: Yes, and you will need a cable like the StarTech USB 3.1 Type-C Male to USB Type-C Male Cable (3.3') - BH #STUSB31CC1M to connect the display.

Q: 9. Does ew 2780 have dual display or split screen feature?

A: No, unfortunately this model does not contain split screen functionality.

Q: 10. It is possible to connect this monitor to a new Mac Pro 2020 using AMD Pro W5700X (16GB)?

A: Yes, using an HDMI 2.0-rated cable.

This morning has really nice color and good brightness for most use. Not quite as sharp as my 5k iMac, but overall works great, and has acceptable resolution.

My only gripe is the remote, which sort of works but most of the buttons don't respond. I would knock it a star for that, but most monitors don't even come with one, so I will give it a pass.

Needed to upgrade from an 11 year old iMac and this provides me with much more added real estate for working! Maybe it's because I'm a little older, but the monitor is humongous! Surprised me a bit. Easy to assemble and hook up-too me a handful of minutes! Pretty much plug-and-play and I was ready to go! I've used it for a couple weeks now and I have no regrets. Screen can be BRIGHT, but I just messed with the settings and I was fine!

I was looking for an overall good monitor (large, great picture quality, 4K, built in speakers) at a reasonable price, so I order this and love it!

These monitors have been on the market for several years, and they work great. Dual monitors provide enough width to view sheet music and play it from the screen. The BenQ monitors have nice sound and bright colors.
