Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. When moving files to PC, will the file names show me the date and time of the recording? Or will there be a way to tell when it was recorded?

A: The folder which holds the multitrak files has the date/time as part of its name, but the files within the folder do not. The stereo file has the date/time as part of its name.

Q: 2. Can I use this with Spreaker? I currently use Spreaker to record. I’m looking for a better options.

A: This is a 4 track Podcasting recorder, designed to have up to 4 mics connected to it for recording to an sd card. You could connect a speaker to one of the headphone outputs on the bottom if you didn't want to use headphones. If you're recording audio from a speaker output, you may want to look at the Zoom H5 instead, BH# ZOH5.

Q: 3. Is it possible to use the O.C. White riser with this boom?

A: At this time, this specific model of broadcast arm is not compatible with a riser. You may want to look into their Proboom Elite series for use with a riser. BH #OC14295BC.

Q: 4. Are there any pictures of this unit mounting on a desk. The [Overview] button is grayed out and there is no description for this boom. How does my Electro Voice RE320 shock mount fit on this boom?

A: Unfortunately those are the only photos we have. You can find more images on the OC White website. Your shock mount will mount to the broadcast arm with a standard 5/8" threaded stud.

Q: 5. Will this work with the Shure MV7? Or is it too light?

A: In this case, the O.C. White Podcast Pro by Accu-Lite Mic Boom Package has a pre-determined boom tension and is made specifically for microphones weighing between 1.4 and 2.5lb. The Shure MV7 Podcast Microphone has a specified weight of 1.21lb and therefore may not be completely compatible with this mic boom for optimal functionality.

Q: 6. SMPTE in or out?

A: The Zoom PodTrak P4 Portable Multitrack Podcast Recorder does not have timecode support.

Q: 7. How wide does the clamp open up to?

A: This clamp is for a 1.5-inch thick desktop, but can open up to almost 2-inches.

Q: 8. Will this function as a USB audio interface?

A: Yes, the Zoom PodTrak P4 Portable Multitrack Podcast Recorder can be used as a USB audio interface (2-in/2-out).

Q: 9. How is this unit for connecting to a vid cam? less sync work on the back end!

A: The Zoom PodTrak P4 Portable Multitrack Podcast Recorder does not have any dedicated main outputs for sending signal to a camera or other source, however if a headphone jack output could be spared, it could in theory be used for this purpose with the proper cabling.

Q: 10. Do you have a product that goes as high as 24 bits?

A: The Zoom H6 Portable Handy Recorder (B&H # ZOH6B) will record WAV audio at 24-bit / 96 kHz and has the ability to record four mics on four tracks at the same time and it also has a built-in USB audio interface, like the Zoom PodTrak P4 Portable Multitrack Podcast Recorder.

I love this thing. It feels very quality and I really love the fact that the xls cable is built right in. It has a lot of style too. I've had a cheap one before and it just felt flimsy but this one is great. In fact I'm about to buy another.

I am using this with a Shure Mv7x, so not a heavy mic by any means. But for the mv7x it works great. If you have something heavier like a rode podmic, maybe check some other places for reviews. I got this for free with the MV7x, but would have no issue buying this.

The boom has clean lines with no gigantic logos. It's stable, quiet enough when repositioning, and the mic-angle adjustment knob is solid and easy to grab & twist. We're just using this for video conferencing, but it would work fine in any light-duty podcasting or home studio scenario. Nice job O.C. White!

For a year I used a $14 boom that squeaked when I moved it and would slowly dip over time.

This boom arm stays where I put it, moves without noise, and has a greater arm length. The latter is quite useful since I can put it on the far end of my desk and thus easily move it out of the way not using it. I was dubious about the arm keeping it's position since it does so with tension, not with a fastener. However, it's done so beautifully so far! If it does so for at least two years, this will be totally worth the money.

I've owned a Blue Compass Boom Arm for more than a year. I love these style of boom arms as they pair nicely with my Shure SM7B. When I ordered a second mic I was looking for a second Compass. Unfortunately, they were out of stock, so I decided to give this one a try. After using it for multiple live streams and a couple podcasts, I found I actually preferred this so I bought a second one to replace my Blue Compass.
These did not need adjusted to hold the mic, unlike my Compass. They also hold their position perfectly (I set up an almost 2-hour timelapse to verify). There is more flexibility with this, when using a SM7B as it gives more clearance for the XLR connection. The XLR cable that comes with it is pretty good. I haven't done a detailed comparison, but I can't notice any difference with just my ears. And if you're using this with an SM7B and Cloudlifter, you won't need to buy 2 XLR cables as one is included.
So... yeah! I love it. Now, I just need to get a couple extra desk clamps for these.

Awesome mic boom! I was worried that without the mechanical fasteners at the joints this boom would lose its position. Not at all. Stays put, easy to adjust. I am hanging a Rode Procaster from it and it works perfectly. I will say that if you can buy it from another vendor - you should. BH has been a frustrating to work with. My orders seem to get hung up between placing them and sitting at their warehouse for no apparent reason (even when they are not place on or around the sabbath). I'm headed to Adorama, they have a very crisp system from order to shipping, almost no lag at all. Placed an order yesterday and they shipped it the next day, it will be here in 4 days from when I placed the order. This order from BH - placed it on a Tuesday - they processed it on a Friday - shipped it on a Tuesday - got it the next Monday. One day short of two weeks - Meh...
I have an order right now I placed on April 10th - it is April 20th and it still hasn't left the warehouse. The order got to the warehouse on April 16th. This seems like a great company, but I don't like looking for shipping updates every morning (for two weeks) ha!

Looks good on camera, and balances really nicely with a Shure SM7B. Doesn’t make noise and generally stays where I put it with little effort. Has a good amount of reach too.

I saw a comparison video between this and the Roda compatible boom. This video convinced me that the O.C. White is just as good. B&H ran a special for $59. What a steal. I have been using it with my Rode NT1-A mic for a month now and it's solid. Moves smoothly and stays put where you want it. The hidden XLR cable is huge.
