Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Do you sell the shutter barrel for these?

A: Please consider the following option. B&H # ET419LTW

Q: 2. What's the Kelvin for this light?

A: This ellipsoidal uses tungsten halogen lamps which give a color temperature of 3250 Kelvin. One of those lamps would be the Ushio HPL Lamp (575W/120V) B&H # USHPL575. Please see the image below.

Q: 3. Can this light be left on continuously?

A: This would really depend on the details of what is meant by "continuously." For a variety of reasons an LED option would likely be the better solution for long-term use. This may be an application that would benefit from further discussion. If possible please contact me to go over the details. I can be reached by phone or email. -Tom Casazza 804-349-3453 tcasazza@altmanlighting.com

Q: 4. What softbox or diffuser to use with this light? I am hanging it from the ceiling and need a softer shadow on my greenscreen and subjects.

A: For all my fresnel fixtures I always buy barndoors for them. This is essential for many reasons. If you can also buy a couple of filter holders that would be good also. I always keep a supply of media...color and various diffusion types. What I find most useful to soften lights is either half spun or a lite white frost. If you have filter holders to fit your light fixture just cut the media to fit and slide it into the slot provided. If you only have barn doors then you can cut the media larger and use C-47s(clothes pins-wooden) to attach the media between the large doors and cover the light beam. It is usually preferable to use the filter holder and that way the barn doors can still be used to cut the light beam and shape it to your subject.

Q: 5. Hello, can this lens be used with an APS-C camera, for example, the Sony FX30?

A: Yes, the DZOFilm Catta 35-80mm T2.9 E-Mount Cine Zoom Lens (White) is compatible for use with Super35 and APS-C sensors.

Q: 6. What is the weight capacity this can hold?

A: The load limit is 665 lb.

Q: 7. Hi! Are these compatible with the Arri 750 lights??

A: Yes, the Ushio HPL+ 375W Lamp (375W/115V) would be compatible for use with the ARRI ARRILITE 750 Plus light fixture.

Q: 8. Can the phoenix connector be removed and another type installed?

A: The PHOENIX connector on the Hosa Technology PHX-206F-BULK Female Phoenix to 3-Pin Female XLR can be removed and replaced by a different type of connector, if so required.

Q: 9. how do I mount a photo strobe on it? Specifically the ALIEN B800 OR B1600

A: Unfortunately, this stand uses a bolt which normally connects to a yoke mounted light. A stand which can be used with an Alien Bees monolight is the Impact Folding Wheeled Base Stand (Black/Chrome-plated, 8.5'), B&H # IMLSPSFB8. Please see the image below for reference.

Q: 10. What is the weight limit to this? It looks like the limiting factor is the clamp? Could I hang 4 360Qs?

A: Altman does not have a specific weight limit for this ladder but it can support up to four 360Q lights. But with any light it is best to use a safety cable on each one.

We were purchasing these to swap out for some spots that weren't working. Easy to install - reliable units.

I've used several of these, and they always produce the results I need. For this kinda price, it is a great light fixture. I know I'll buy more.

This Altman light is really good quality, but everyone knows Altman makes good stuff, anyway. With a 500 watt bulb and a set of barn doors I am able to light a stage for video and spot the presenter with really good separation of the spot from the on-stage video projector screen. It is a Fresnel so the spot isn't clearly defined on the edges like an ellipsoidal, but if you need to isolate a spot this will do it. The barn doors on front make it that much easier. In wide flood mode it produces a nice, even spread - kind of like a Par 64 can.
