This still might be (and probably will be) too large for many short haul flights using smaller planes. The Pelican 1500 series carry-on cases come in various configurations and are still a good size case that will fit in more overheads than the IM2620DB.

Q: 5. Can anyone comment on how much foam should surround a camera body when shipped or when placed in airline luggage? I may use this case with an Ursa mini pro. I'm wondering if 2 inches above and below is adequate, or if I should purchase a deeper pelican?

A: Many cases used in our company (live-event AV) have 2 of foam around them and the gear is well protected from event to event. We rarely send gear as luggage, though. Personally, I would want 3 of foam that was not pick-n-pluck. The airline may toss or drop your case, and you don't want to run into issues caused by excessive force reaching the camera. Think about abused UPS boxes you sometimes receive.There are several places you can get foam pre-cut to fit your Pelican that you can cut out yourself to fit your gear. Additionally, you can use shock or damage indicators inside your case when shipped as luggage to indicate what kind of extremes it endured. I hope that is helpful to you.

Q: 6. I have a Ruggard softcase that I want to put into a hard case but the Ruggard hard case is more expensive than this one is. Can you remove all of the foam inside? The case I have is 18.9 x 13.6 x 7.6.Thanks!

A: Buy the empty Pelican 1600, no foam. Save a few bucks.

Q: 7. Please, I have a video monitor Marshall 26 inches, can I put inside the 1600 pelican case?

A: To accurately answer i would have to know LxWxH, and are you measuring the monitor from side to side or corner to corner. Sorry, just don't have all info needed to give honest answer

A: The 1600 comes with pluck foam and the 1600NF comes with NF or No Foam.

A: The lock go on either side of the latches by the handle. It is a great case to protect the camera gear.

If you ever plan air-travel with your photo gear and have cringed at the thought of those camera bodies and lenses being treated like, well.. like luggage, this is the answer. Three layers of pick n' pluck foam allow for a perfect custom fit. The case itself is virtually indestructible and the foam cushions everything inside from whatever the baggage handlers can dish out. I can now travel with my camera gear as checked luggage with peace of mind. - - HIGHLY recommended! 5

Use this for all of our photography gear. All our lenses, camera bodies, speedlights, and more. Even our 70-200 mm fits! Amazing. Very durable, not too heavy, even with all our gear inside. Can tell it is durable, and made to last. Very heavy duty. 5

I do a lot of weddings, and needed a single case to carry my primary gear. With this I can carry 4 Canon HG10's, 2 LED lights, my Sennheiser wireless systems including a hand held for guest comments. These boxes are really tuff, waterproof and virtually indestructible. If you do break it, they will fix or replace it. They are a bit heavy, but it contains all the stuff you need, or add another one, as I did. Lots of sizes to choose from. One drawback on the 1514 - the retractable handle is too short! My heels catch the case when I'm zipping through the airport. I wrote Pelican about it, to no avail. 5

How I used the 1610 case: - Protects/stores/transports my 2 Profoto D1 Air heads, Profoto Air Remote, Paul C. Buff Mini Vagabond (with component separated from the battery), and the power cables for the strobe heads. - Doubles as a seat, doubles as a makeshift table. Things that are great about the 1610: - Wheels: thank God the Flintstones came up with wheels because they still rock up to this day! - Crushproof construction: if a Smart car hit this case with your belongings in it, I'm sure the Smart car would look stupid. - Foam padding: easy to adjust. Do what I did and use tooth picks to mark your planned cutout areas! Things that aren't so great about it: - I barely just heard about this case. WHAT IS LIFE!? 5
