The Tiffen 138mm #9 (3) Yellow Filter is a basic contrast filter, primarily for use with black and white film. This medium yellow filter slightly darkens skies, helps to cut through haze, and improves overall contrast. It is a common contrast filter for black and white photography, producing an accurate tonal range and compensating for the blue sensitivity of panchromatic film.

There is a 2x filter factor with this filter, requiring an increase of 1 stop for normal exposure. Tiffen filters are made using ColorCore technology, a process that involves laminating the filter substrate between 2 pieces of optical glass, grinding flat to a tolerance of 10,000th of an inch, and then mounting to precision metal rings.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. I would like to use this with sony sel24f11.4gm can i still use lens hood with this attached e.g whats total diameter?

A: This filter will be no wider than your lens is. You should have no issue attaching a lens hood via bayonet or screw in methods.

Q: 2. Does this fit in the Nisi 100 filter holder?

A: The Nisi 100 filter holder is designed for 2mm thick filters. Tiffen MPTV filters are 4mm thick which allows the filter "effect" to be laminated in between two pieces of glass. This prevents the "effect" from being scratched and also makes the filter more durable. To hold our 4x4 or 4x5.65 MPTV filters you can use the Tiffen Pro100 filter holder.

Q: 3. How thick is this filter?

A: The Tiffen 4 x 4 ND 0.6 Filter is 4mm thick.

Q: 4. Will this work on the Panasonic 20mm 1.7 lens? (lens retracts, so I'm not sure it will)

A: This lens takes a 46mm filter as per the specs on the B&H website for the lens https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/986097-REG/panasonic_h_h020ak_lumix_20mm_f1_7_ii_asph.html

Q: 5. Is this filter multi coated?

A: This filter is not multi coated. If you wish to puchase a 77mm Tiffen multi coated ND .6 please visit the link below:a href= https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/533249-REG/Tiffen_77HTND6_77mm_Digital_HT_High.html target= _blank https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/533249-REG/Tiffen_77HTND6_77mm_Digital_HT_High.html/a

Q: 6. Tiffen ND 0.9 filter dark enough for taking water fall ?

A: The best ND filter for photographing Waterfalls will vary based on the shooting conditions and the effect you are looking to achieve. By experimenting you will discover what works best for you. A 3-Stop ND filter is a good place to start. I would suggest getting a Circular Polarizer as well. A Circular Polarizer will reduce reflections off the water, and block some light as well. Here is a link where you can find Circular Polarizers on our site. https://bhpho.to/3xMEALl

Q: 7. How do I remove something from my cart?

A: Please contact B&H Customer Support

Q: 8. Anyone know the weight of this filter in Grams?

A: 13.3 grams. I use it on my DJI X5 camera with the Olympus 12mm lens, and it balances perfectly. But I want a lighter .9 ND to use with my Olympus 25mm and the Sun shade.

Q: 9. Can this filter be combined with the Tiffin 77MM variable ND filter to become a super stopper like lens?

A: I suppose it's possible if you put this on the lens first and the variND after but I can't imagine why you would want to. The coatings on this filter aren't very good and there'd be some loss in sharpness, not to mention weird color shifts.

Q: 10. Other than having a vignette problem can I stack three of these 3-stop ND filters to achieve 9 stops down? The Big Stopper system is $200, I don't want to pay that, which gives 10 stop reduction. Or do you carry a ND 10 stop filter for $50 or so? Thanks

A: That is correct. While it would certainly create some vignetting, stacking 3 of the 0.9 filters will give you 9 stops of light reduction. If you wanted to use just one filter, you might consider a variable ND:http://bhpho.to/1cCfMcVThis will allow you to adjust the ND effect, while maintaining a relatively slim profile.
