The 4K Real-Time Chroma Keyer with 10-Bit, 4:4:4 Video Processing from Datavideo provides you with high-quality, real-time chroma keying using 10-bit processing and 4:4:4 color sampling for clean edges with limited artifacts. The keyer supports video up to UHD 4K, and it is designed to allow you to choose from green or blue as the background to key your foreground subject. The keyer does all the processing in real time, requiring your computer only for interface control and adjustment using the downloadable DVK-400 software app for Windows.

This is a live keyer, which allows you to composite a foreground over a live video background, supporting both SDI and HDMI inputs for foreground and background as well as SDI and HDMI outputs for preview and program output. A separate HDMI input allows for an external matte as well as text, graphics, and video overlays. The keyer's sophisticated algorithms help preserve the transparency in smoke as well as providing clean keys with blonde hair, water-filled bottles, or glass objects. The DVK-400 is 1 RU tall and has built-in rackmount ears; it also has removable feet for desktop applications.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Does the HDR-90 have a browser based interface for remote control operation?

A: The Datavideo ProRes UHD 4K Video Recorder (1 RU Rackmount Model) can be controlled via a network.

Q: 2. There is an SD card slot. Will it record to SD cards? Are the removable hard drives how swappable?

A: No it can not record to SD cards. The SD card is reserved for "future development" (new features they may add in the future) and firmware updates. Yes the SSDs are hot swappable

Q: 3. Does this work well with newer Macs using USB-C?

A: It depends on what you define as "newer". USB-C refers to the connector type, not the protocol used. The current lineup of Macs all have Thunderbolt 3 on USB-C ports, so yes it works with all of these, as well as older Macs with Thunderbolt 1, 2 ports. Some Macs as recently as 2017 (MacBook and Air) had USB-C ports that did not have Thunderbolt going through them. Apollo x8 works with Thunderbolt 1, 2, or 3 but you must make sure that any Mac that has USB-C connectors is actually using Thunderbolt protocol.

Q: 4. Can you set file names per record and gang record multi recorders?

A: The Datavideo ProRes UHD 4K Video Recorder (1 RU Rackmount Model) doesn't offer file renaming or multi-drive gang recording.

Q: 5. Is there a way that files can be copied from a mac onto this deck, and outputted @4k to a projector?

A: The DataVideo ProRes UHD 4K Video Recorder (Desktop Model) features playback and recording options, both in qualities up to UHD 4K. If loaded with appropriate files types (Apple Prores), it should work fine to output a video for playback to a 4K projector.

Q: 6. Anyone using this with ipDTL or Cleanfeed?

A: Users on web forums seem to have mixed results when using the Apollo with ipDTL and Cleanfeed. Some have been able to get it to work on a Mac, but not Windows, while others have had no luck on either system. You may want to contact Universal Audio directly for more information regarding compatibility. You can reach UA tech support by phone at 831-440-2436 or 877-698-2834. Their business hours are 9 AM to 1 PM Pacific Standard Time on Monday,

Q: 7. If you are recording 4 inputs of video, do you have the option to turn off any inputs that are not in use to save drive space?

A: The Datavideo ProRes UHD 4K Video Recorder (1 RU Rackmount Model) has 3 different input sets that can be set to record. One could select a set that has disconnected inputs to record less inputs, but the recorder will still record from inputs 1,2,3 and 4. The difference will be whether input 1 or 2 are HDMI or SDI.

Q: 8. Is the USB type that connects to the computer end a Type C as well or is it a Type A?

A: System requirement from https://help.uaudio.com/hc/en-us/articles/360047404851-Apollo-Solo-USB-System-Requirements : PC with available built-in* USB 3 SuperSpeed (Type-A or Type-C port)

Q: 9. Why would one use this instead of the Atomos Shogun 7, which is only $1300?

A: If you need the following additional Inputs/Outputs: 1 x BNC Timecode Input 1 x BNC Timecode Output 1 x BNC Genlock Input 1 x BNC Genlock Output 1 x 3.5 mm GPI Input 1 x DVIP Input/Output 1 x DB9 RS-232/422 Input Then the Datavideo ProRes UHD 4K Video Recorder (Desktop Model) is necessary.

Q: 10. Can I daisy chain other Thunderbolt 3 interface (apollo, volt or others/not Universal Audio) and record 4to6 mics same time?

A: You cannot daisy chain other Thunderbolt 3 interfaces with the Apollo Solo Heritage Edition Desktop 2x4 Thunderbolt 3 Audio Interface with SOLO.

I bought the SP-8x10 to process both 8x10 x-ray film and 4x5 panchromatic film. The 8x10 x-ray film has emulsion on both sides and scratches very easily. Glass trays worked OK, but it was tedious to develop each sheet in the dark. I like to stand develop my 4x5 sheet film for one-hour, but this wasn't very practical for tray development.

The SP-8x10 solved both problems. I can process my 8x10 x-ray film with no scratches with the lights on (after loading under safelight). As others have pointed out, make sure to pre-soak the film and listen for the click when you rock the tray. Took a little to figure out how much to rock the tray to make sure I get even development. I can also load 4 sheets of 4x5 film using a film changing bag (a little tight) and easily do one hour stand development.

I had seen some reviews that this uses as little as 200ml of chemical, but the box says 500ml. I've been using 500ml with no problems. The ability to process both 8x10 and 4x5 (perhaps even 5x7 in the future) in one daylight tank is great. Now I just need to figure out what to do with all those glass trays.

I have had the opportunity to choose this tank or any of the Patterson tanks with the inserts and decided to get this one since it was the easiest to load no fiddling with getting tabs in the right place or bending the film. Also with only using 500ml of liquid is a big plus. The other advantage this has is the multi format for if you want to dabble in bigger sizes you can and don't have to invest into another tank system.

I developed my first four large format (5x7) sheets in this and it works great. Easy to load in a darkbag, though I suspect 8x10 might benefit from the space of a tent or actual darkroom. It fits together nicely, and the plastic quality is top notch, very sturdy. The lid lacks any sort of locking mechanism but I haven't felt like this is an issue - it fits nicely on top of the tray, and it doesn't feel loose while doing agitations.

The lip at the end is actually perfect for pouring chems, and I don't need to use a funnel like I do with a Paterson tank. It says you only need 500mL of chems and I believe it - in fact I suspect you could get by with less with very careful agitation or stand dev. I usually round up my measurements a bit, and I suspect the tank could hold close to a liter of chems, though again, you might need to be careful with your agitation.

I'm looking forward to trying stand dev when I pick some Rodinal up later this week. I have very high hopes for the results!

This is my second one of these I’ve bought (I also have a couple of their units for developing 4x5 film). Nicely made and constructed, it does the trick with a small volume of chemistry. Having two improves my work flow, especially when doing stand development. Recommend .
