The 2 lb BH1 Sputnik Arca-Type Ball Head from ProMediaGear is a black anodized CNC-machined aluminum head with internal steel components. By disengaging the large main locking knob of the head, it allows you to move the ball unlike conventional ball heads. Because the head has a rotating slot, it permits you to move the clamp in any 90° multi-angle direction.

The 5.5" tall ball head rotates a full 360° via its independent pan lock, and it can hold camera equipment weighing up to 50 lb. The clamp tightens down onto the included PBX3 quick release plate with its aluminum screw knob mechanism, and the clamp is laser engraved with a millimeter scale to repeat a position of the quick release plate.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. A review by Lensvid (whoever they are} points out that the movement of the Bh1 could be smoother. I wonder if they mean it seems to stick . But on the other hand they do say it seemed to be better after using it. Is this the experience of others or is it likely they had a faulty copy. Can anyone shed some light on this concern?

A: All of the reviews we've seen of the ProMediaGear BH1 Sputnik Arca-Type Ball Head mention how smooth the movements are.

Q: 2. What is the minimum & maximum dimension of arca-style head opening? My camera's arca-style base is 38mm wide. I want to find out whether I can drop it off or I have to slide it in. Thank you.

A: the range is about 36-38.5mm. I have one plate that drops in and one that needs an ever so slight tilt.

Q: 3. Will the plate accommodate 3/8" mounting screws?

A: Yes, the ProMediaGear 8" Arca-Type double dovetail plate adapts to two 1/4-20 Mounting Screws and optional can accept two 3/8-16 screws.

Q: 7. Is this compatible with my manfrotto MT294A3 tripod and Nikon D3200 camera? Or is there an equivalent manfrotto ball head that is a better fit? Thanks

A: Yes, the BE-117 Ball head will fit fine on the Manfrotto MT294A3. And it will work fine with your Nikon D3200.

Q: 8. How can you convert the knob to a lever lock like Reallyrightstuff uses. I have the BH-55 and am thinking of a change?

A: The entire quick release clamp would need to be removed to have a lever lock clamp installed on it.

Q: 9. is this compatible with a platypod?

A: Yes, the Oben BE-117 Ball Head with Arca-Type Quick Release can be mounted on the Platypod Ultra Plate Camera Support and on the Platypod Max Camera Support.

Q: 10. What is the difference between the BE-117 and the BE-117T?

A: The T stands for travel. It has a slimmer profile that allows tripods with legs that fold and close in an upward position to close completely and not be blocked by the head.

This thing is obviously built to last!

I was looking for a way to flip my camera from horizontal to vertical and back quickly without re-leveling. An L-bracket and the Oben Ball Head, both from B&H, solved my issue very neatly. The ball head is obviously a well-engineered piece that responds well to normal use.

this is a great ball head for your tripod. the quick release is smooth and easy yet holds your camera securely. The best feature is the big knob that lets you slightly loosen the ball head to move the camera. You are able to make minuet adjustments without the head getting so loose you cant get your picture aligned as you wish. All around great Head.

I bought the BE-108 to attach to a small jib that did not have a quick release plate. The permanent plate on the jib is awkward to mount a camera-I use a Canon7D and it can take a lot of time just to get on and off the jib. The jib is designed for small cameras so I needed something that was not too heavy-plus I travel a lot.I needed something that was very light weight and had a quick release plate--this fit the requirement. It has a couple of bubble levels and I can turn the entire unit 180 degrees if needed. I have no problems with this ball head.I have yet to use it on my slider but expect will work just as well.

I was looking for a reasonable ball head to use on multiple platforms; on top of a monopod using the 3/8 screw; on a Joby SLR flex pod using the 1/4 screw; and on a future mid-weight carbon travel tripod leg set. It needs to hold fairly lightweight - perhaps 3 lb max - mirrorless cameras and occasionally long (100-400 zoom) lens. The head seems very well made, the main ball control knob works really well, and I particularly appreciate the Arca-style mount, which works with the other Arca-type clone plates that I have, such as the Peak Design basic plate. I do have a simple microfiber bag that I can pull over the head, which is a big help for keeping it clean(er) and minimizing dings, particularly when on a monopod (which you WILL drop at some point when you forget it's not a tripod). A very nice product for the money.

The thing I really like about this, and would recommend to anyone is the sepearate pan control. I wasn't sure I needed it, but after using it, I now know I made the right decision.

This ball head should work well for me out in the field. Not too heavy but strong enough to hold my 7d2, with 100/400 lens.

Usually you get what you pay for. But with this ball head, you get so much more. This is an excellent ball head for the price. It locks down without shifting.

Have used a couple of times since recently purchasing. I decided on this model vs one of the smaller Oben heads. This one is rated for over 24 lbs. I have the Sigma 150-600mm Sport lens, and I wanted to be able to put this lens on a ball head on my monopod. I also wanted the ARCA style mounting plate. The head seems to handle the heavy Sigma with ease.
