An apt telephoto prime for portraiture and other selective compositions, the Canon EF-mount Rokinon 85mm f/1.4 Series II Lens is characterized by its fast f/1.4 maximum aperture to suit working in low-light conditions and for controlling depth of field. The optical design incorporates one hybrid aspherical element that helps to reduce distortion and spherical aberrations for a high degree of sharpness and accurate rendering. An Ultra Multi-Coating has also been applied to reduce flare and ghosting in order to achieve greater contrast and color fidelity. The manual focus design permits working with subjects as close as 3.6' away and a rounded nine-blade diaphragm contributes a pleasing bokeh quality.

Portrait-length prime is designed for full-frame Canon EF-mount cameras but can also be used with APS-C models where it provides a 136mm equivalent focal length.

Fast f/1.4 maximum aperture offers a high degree of control over depth of field for working with selective focus and shallow depth of field techniques. Additionally, it also benefits working in low-light conditions with shorter shutter speeds.

One hybrid aspherical element is featured in the optical design to control spherical aberrations for improved clarity and sharpness throughout the aperture range.

An Ultra Multi-Coating has been applied to individual elements to minimize ghosting and flare for increased contrast and color neutrality when working in strong lighting conditions.

Manual focus operation permits working with subjects as close as 3.6' away and an internal focusing design maintains the overall lens length during use.

Rounded nine-blade diaphragm contributes to a smooth and pleasing bokeh quality.

Weather-sealed design suits working in inclement weather conditions.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. This lens states it's Format Compatibility is APS-C. If I use it on a full frame camera, will it be 85MM or the equivalent of 136mm. ??

A: This lens comes in a few mounts. Only the Sony E-Mount has Full Frame cameras. The other mounts do not have the option to put this on a Full Frame camera. The Sony E-Mount version of this lens is a Full Frame lens. It will behave like a 85mm on a Full Frame with no vignetting.

Q: 2. Will this lense work on my Sony alpha 6000?? , I have the E mount adapter

A: This is an A mount so as long as you have the adaptor for a-mount on your e-mount, it'll work. It's big though haha!

Q: 3. Can I control the aperture of the lens with my camera on a Sony body and shoot with Aperture priority. I am a little bit confused because some of the reviews online make it sounds like it only works for Nikon body

A: My camera is a Sony a77II. I use this lens on aperture priority. Aperture adjustments are made manually on the lens. Camera adjusts shutter speed depending on conditions. I have enjoyed the lens. Have taken some great portrait shots. It does require more work from the photographer ie. manual focus and aperture adjustments which is not a bad thing for an amateur like me.

Q: 4. Will this lens work on Canon 80d?

A: Sorry, I don't know. I have Canon 60D.

Q: 5. how does the auto chip operate?

A: I use this lens on my Nikon D800E. This is a manual focus lens, but it has a focus chip in it, which means that as you manually turn the focus ring, you will see a left or right arrow in the view finder, indicating whether you need to focus in or out on the subject. When you are in focus, you will see both arrows with a circle in the middle of the arrows. Looks like this

Q: 6. Will this work for a full frame canon sensor?

A: Yes. Bought it to use on a Canon 6d

Q: 7. Is this lens work canon 750d?

A: Yes

Q: 8. What's the difference between the new series ll and the old AS IF UMC ?

A: It is the same optical design, but you have a redesigned focus ring with a better grip, de-clickable aperture, and weather sealing.

Q: 9. Is this really a 85mm focal length with APS-C? The box has 85mm full-frame written right on it.

A: the focal length is the focal length. people still use the 35mm full frame as a standard for comparison still so it has a 35mm crop factor of @ 125mm on an aps-c sensor. The lens has terrible aberration problems. I returned it and bought a Fuji 90mm which is an excellent lens.

Q: 10. Where is this lens made? Japan or China?

A: According to the information we have, our current inventory's Country of Origin is South Korea. Please be aware this can change over the product's production life without notice.

Picked up a used (9+ condition) version of this new lens from B&H last week. Quite surprised with the image quality, bokeh, and overall quality of this cheap lens.

The lens was selling for $100 off for the black Friday holidays and this used version was another $60 off, final price for this lens was $239.00.

I've not shot enough with it yet nor did any technical tests with the lens to have a final opinion on it, but first few days I was impressed with the lens. I think it will get a lot of use and may be my best lens for the price!

I REALLY want the Canon EOS R RF lens for my RP, but it costs entirely too much. Thankfully, B & H had this lens for a fantastic price and it's worth every penny. Sharp as ever and great quality, the only downside is that it is a manual focus lens only, but I am used to manual focus on camera gear.
