Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. what printer do you recommend for this paper?

A: A high quality inkjet photo printer i.e. Epson P700/900 & above, Canon Pro 10/100/1000/300 & above.

Q: 2. Can this paper be used with an HP DesignJet T520?

A: Yes. That is the exact printer we have. The paper fits and prints well.

Q: 3. A question regarding the excellent review (Kevin) of Hahnemuhle WT 310 Matte: The review mentions a clay stabilizer being compromised due to the texture of the paper. Does that clay originate in the printer head and become dislodged and then create the clog? If so, which printer is referred to?

A: The clay isn't in the printer head; it's in the paper. ALL inkjet-specific papers have a clay stabilizer as it is vitally important to how the paper works: The clay stabilizer provides a consistently receptive surface to receive the ink droplets so that tones and colours are consistent across the paper. The stabilizer also has the function of dramatically reducing the amount of ink required to create a saturated image. To those who don't understand this concept, two points:1. Print on regular art papers, like watercolour. It will work, but the print quality will be very poor, colour and density will be awful, even with double the amount of ink compared to inkjet-specific papers.2. Use a knife to scrape the printable surface of any inkjet-specific paper. It will produce a fine white powder, or chips that can be broken up to form a powder (depending on how much binder is in use). This is why most papers, including this one, are single-sided -- because the stabilizer is only applied to one side of the paper. Others like Moab Entrada have the stabilizer applied to both surfaces. All such papers have a lignin-free substrate to make them archival, but you are not printing on the substrate; your ink never reaches it. Again, this is trivial to demonstrate by making a print, then gently scraping the stabilizer away to reveal the paper substrate beneath.-- Kevin

Q: 4. This looks intriguing. Is it special purpose paper? One review mentions an adhesive. What are the prints meant to be attached to? Thanks.

A: It's the same as the full sized paper sheets or rolls. The only thing is due to the thickness of this paper & small size,, you might have to manual feed it in the larger printers (those that take up to 13x19 & above). Being so the manual feed won't recognize the 4x6 therefore you need to mount iton a larger paper. Please note this paper wont fit into the small all in one photo printers due to its thickness.

Q: 5. Are the papers labeled so you know which is which?

A: The papers in the Hahnemuhle Glossy Sample Pack FineArt Assortment (8.5 x 11", 16 Sheets) are labeled so you know which one's you prefer best for future ordering.

Q: 6. How does this paper compare to HP Coated Paper for full color photographic prints? I like the coated paper for test prints.

A: The HP Bright White Inkjet Paper is thinner than the HP Heavyweight Coated Paper (Matte) for Inkjet, 4.7mil vs 6.4mil. It would be a matter of opinion but in my own experience I would only use these to proof the layout in draft mode before printing a finished product on a higher quality paper.

Q: 7. Which Black ink for this paper: Photo Black or Matt Black?

A: You can use both Photo or Matte ink with this paper.

Q: 8. Can I used this paper with pigment ink?

A: Yes this roll paper can be used with pigment ink.

Q: 9. A reviewer mentions that this is glossy paper, but is it glossy or more like a semi-gloss?

A: It is a glossy paper but still allows you to see some texture of the paper.

Q: 10. Does this paper have OBAs? There's no mention of it, yet it's characterized as bright white, similar to papers with OBAs.

A: Yes, this paper does contain OBA elements, however the manufacturer has not specified how much.

No one does it like Hahnemuhle. You simply must experience each paper for yourself. They are all magical and beyond description.

I purchased this sample pack so that I could test how prints would turn out on my new Canon Pixma Pro-1 using Hahnemuhle papers. It's a great sampling of matte papers by Hahnemuhle and each sheet of paper has a stamp on the back indicating the paper type making it easier to evaluate things. After using this paper, I have a much better idea of what paper types to use for any given picture when printing to the Pixma.

I thought I would give the Hahnemuhle FineArt paper a shot on my new Canon Pixma Pro-10 and I am sure glad I did. This sample pack is a great way to try out the different kinds of paper Hahnemuhle offers, before spending a lot of money on a full package of paper. It is hard to pick a favorite out of this pack, but I think the German Etching and Albrecht Durer might be the choices I'd make if buying full packages. Both give color photos an interesting look. Monet Canvas was cool as well though, giving the photo I printed on it a painterly look. :) Also try the other Matte & Glossy sample packs from Hahnemuhle as well. Equally great papers!
