Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. How is the zoom while recording video? Does it zoom smoothly and quietly like a camcorder?

A: This camera has a Zoom lever on the shutter release button. The lever will allow you to smoothly zoom in and out while recording video.

Q: 2. How does this series do as far as sucking in dust? I had a Lumix LX100 that was terrible, 2-3 months after cleaning and ~15 spots again.

A: There isn't any issue with dust getting into this camera.

Q: 3. Can we do Product Photography with Sony RX100 VII Premium Compact Camera with a 1.0-type stacked CMOS sensor (DSCRX100M7) ?

A: Yes you can do product photography with the RX100VII however I would recommend an interchangeable lens camera for better quality and more control over the image and focus. This Canon T8i would be a better camera for product photography in my opinion: https://bhpho.to/3wTJvcx

Q: 4. I have the RX100 VI, please tell me what's the difference with this new release VII?

A: The RX100 VII is an improvement over its predecessor in terms of its continuous shooting mode, autofocus speed, the addition of an external mic port, built in time lapse functions, Bluetooth connectivity and slightly better battery life.

Q: 5. Which battery does this camera use? The specs say NP-BX1, but that battery does not say it's for this camera.

A: Yes the Sony RX100VII camera uses the Sony NP-BX1/M8 Rechargeable battery: https://bhpho.to/36uDBDN

Q: 6. Can you equip the camera with a neutral density filter?

A: While the Sony Cyber-shot DSC-RX100 VII Digital Camera is not specifically threaded for filters, there are 3rd party options out there that allow for the mounting of filters.

Q: 7. What is the electronic view finder like? Is it part of he camera itself or is a separate attachment? Can I hold the camera up to my eye?

A: It is a pop up device that is easy to open. You can even make that the camera shuts down when you close it (push it down, super easy). It is part of the camera of course, but pops up from the top. I find it extremely convenient and it is a must have for me. During bright conditions it is not easy to look at the screen only, and I have progressive lenses, so it breaks my neck to do it. I love the VF. It is very bright, you can adjust the focus for your eye correction.

Q: 8. Can you charge this camera using an external power bank?

A: Yes, the Sony Cyber-shot DSC-RX100 VII Digital Camera can be charged via USB, so you can use an external power bank that offers USB charging and charge the camera with it.

Q: 9. how many total batteries come in this kit?

A: This kit comes with a total of 2 batteries.

Q: 10. IS THE SONY DSC-RX VII MIRRORLESS?

A: This is a point and shoot camera with a built in lens, typically, p&s camera's are not classified as mirrorless but you can say it is mirrorless like every other point and shoot camera.

I purchased this camera once, B&H released the preorder option and I must say that I love this camera. The movability of screen to face the viewer and 2.8 aperture, amazing. It does a great job with picture, videos and the slow-mo is excellent also.

I would recommend getting an additional battery if you doing any kind of videos or vlogs.

I've owned two previous generations of the RX100 and the only weakness was to reach of the lens...this model solves that very well

Love this little camera! Extremely powerful and it fits in your pocket. I bought this to replace my RX100V that I had worn out. It had taken me across North America on motorcycle multiple times and also been right at home doing family portraits and weddings. Cant beat it! Quick shipping too from BH so I didnt miss any shots.

Excellent carry everywhere camera when the DSLR is not needed. Awesome build quality! Images are simply outstanding! I suggest getting the grip that sticks to the front of the camera as it can be a bit slippery.

This camera does just about everything possible with such a small size. I know there is more information available by download, but I just wish Sony would include a detailed instruction book.

I bought the camera several weeks ago right before a two week trip to Europe: Netherlands, Belgium, France, Spain, Portugal, Gibraltar. This was an upgrade to my previous travel camera, the RX100 M2. It was time for an upgrade.

The autofocus capability is superb but the key feature for a travel camera is the 24-200 mm F2.8-4.5 zoom lense. Along with the compact size, the zoom, the autofocus features, this is the perfect travel camera. Add to it the great video capabilities and you have everything you need.

I carried my RX100M2 all over the world, shot thousands of pictures and videos and the RX100 VII is the perfect replacement. The only downside is the shorter battery life vs the M2, but on the plus side I can use the batteries and charger from the M2 with the VII, thanks Sony for not changing those.

Truly remarkable little thing. As a pro photographer carrying heavy gear for all my jobs the last thing I want is to take my pro gear out when going for a walk, vacation or just hanging out with family. This is one of my go to cameras for personal work and documenting every day life. Super sharp, fast focusing, slides in your pocket and very easy to handle. Sure it isn't cheap but I much rather shoot with this thing than a $1000+ cell phone. The zoom range is amazing, very versatile.

Pros: size, weight, versatility, sharp lens, fast focusing, pop up flash and viewfinder.
Cons: Surface is a bit slippery(get an extra grip for it) battery life, not weather sealed
