I've used lot's of recording mics. AKG cardoid, Yeti mic, and rode mics. This is the best mic I've ever used for podcasting. Great tone. Will be buying a second one soon.

Great sound right from the mic, but it does need a fethead or cloudlifter to get acceptable volume.

Recent purchase but already living up to the hype. A super versatile mic for many applications.

Few things! 1.) It's very quiet by default. Make sure you have something to give this a lot of gain. 2.) Those coming from cheap USB mics, this is a lot heavier and I had to replace my cheap microphone arm. BUT having said that, I love it. I love the sound and I've already done VO work and streamed with it. Easy recommend and something that you can pretty much use forever.

Shure SM7B is a fantastic mic - excellent background noise rejection, w/ low self-noise

the bundle saves me having to get a swing arm and XLR cable.

B&H Microphone Testing · Shure SM7B

The flat-frequency response enhances the midrange and high frequencies that are associated with the human voice.

Improved rejection of electromagnetic hum—optimized for shielding against broadband interference emitted by computer monitors.

Internal air-suspension shock isolation virtually eliminates mechanical-noise transmission.

The detachable close-talk windscreen eliminates the need for any add-on protection against explosive breath sounds—even for close-up vocals or narration.

The classic cardioid pickup pattern is designed to reject off-axis audio, so you can sing or speak at a comfortable angle. And, it captures the sound with minimum coloration, isolating the signal source helps to reduce feedback issues.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. whats the best mic pre amp compressor to use ?

A: Preamp and compressor quality and sound is highly subjective. The SM7B seems to require a significant amount of gain for best results. The Grace M101 is a popular choice to pair with the SM7B and provides clean high gain. a href= http://bhpho.to/1wR5Lnf target= _blank http://bhpho.to/1wR5Lnf/a

Q: 2. Need a recommendation for a voice mic to use with an M BOX Mini currently using a SHURE PE 515, I also have a SHURE 545L which I have not tried. Or, if I get a Shure SM7B will I be able to use my Passport 150 Pro as a pre-amp for the M BOX Mini?

A: The Shure SM7B is very low in natural since its a dynamic mic it needs alot of gain from your M BOX asnd doing so will introduce hiss from the M BOX bringing noise level up. The best we can advice is to get a cloud lifter and this will eliminate and hiss giving you a 25db of a boost.

Q: 9. I have this microphone (Shure SM7B) - connected via an XLR cable/connector to a 28s pream/processor, then - from there via an xlr/cable connector into the XLR receptical (Mic1) into a Focusrite Scarlett 2i4 - USB Audio Interface box - then into the PC via a USB connector from the Focusrite (which I use just for the interface to the PC). I can't seem to get enough power out of the microphone for the levels to be at a normal (-12db) level in my recording software (Audition, and/or Captivate 8). I leave all of the processing in the 286 off... and just use the preamp phantom power feed to the microphone of 48v, with a 3/4 of total gain, then I also added gain at the Scarlite USB interface redbox. Still not enough to hear the microphone clearly. Any coaching tips? (Novice here). I've also tried adding gain -

A: As this is a dynamic microphone, no additional pre-amp or phantom power is requires. make sure phantom power on your interface is switch
