The AC-44 takes MXL's signature 3-capsule array and uses it to create a small microphone with a wide range of pickup. This array, coupled with excellent sound rejection from the back, makes it quite suitable for conferencing with multiple people in a room: you'll hear who you want to hear, and avoid amplifying background noises you'd rather leave unamplified.

With a 30 Hz to 20 kHz frequency response, the mic will pickup all the nuances of speech.

With a compact footprint, the AC-44 is an ideal solution for any limited space application that requires high-quality sound capture.

With a simple USB-C connection, the AC-44 is compatible with any computer. You won't need to download additional drivers or software to get it to work with your setup.

In addition to its digital connections, the mic sports a line-level auxiliary output. This is not intended for use with headphones, but rather speakers (if you need them), or distribution systems such as headphone amplifiers to accommodate multiple pairs of headphones.

The mic captures audio at sample rates and resolutions up to 16-bit / 48 kHz, which is the broadcast standard for media playback. Your participants should hear you as clearly as they'd hear audio coming from their TV or computer.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Can you use a longer cable than 6 foot? How long of a cable can be used before mic will not work?

A: The MXL AC-404 Portable USB Boundary Conferencing Microphone uses a USB 2.0 specification, which dictates a maximum length of 5 meters / 16 feet before failure.

Q: 2. Can I daisy chain 2 or 3 of these together?

A: No. These are not designed to daisy chain.

Q: 3. Can this be used with an iPad?

A: This is made for direct compatibility with Windows, macOS/OS X. Not iOS devices like iPhones and iPads.

Q: 4. What is the difference between MXL AC-404 and the MXL AC-404Z?

A: The mics themselves are identical. The Z is meant to be part of a Zoom conferencing system. The Z ships with mounting tape, a right angle USB cable and also sports a blue LED to match the Zoom color. The non Z does not sport an LED light. If you have a Zoom system, consider the Z version, otherwise the non Z is fine.

Q: 5. I am interested in microphones like this one, but I am interested in chaining up to 4 of them together. Can you recommend an alternative product?

A: You will need a microphone mixer and USB audio interface to use several boundary microphones connected to a single computer. Q: 6. Can I power the mic thru the USB port with a portable battery pack?

A: This mic is designed to send audio via USB connection, as well as power back to the mic. Theoretically, since it is bus powered, you could use an external battery to power the mic through the USB, but you would not have control over the headphone audio line level output. This is all done on the computer.

Q: 7. Is the USB cable permanently fixed to the mic?

A: We have bought at least 30 of these over the past 3 years. They all have a USB mini connection on one end that plugs into the microphone itself.

Q: 8. Is this compatible with a MacBook ?

A: Yes it is. As a side note also the shock mount that is included doesn't fit the mic that you order. It's weird I know.

Q: 9. If I were to use these, I would need to add about 25' of USB extension cable to the installed cable. Can the power and audio make it that far if I extend it this far?

A: You can buy usb extenders - BUT some of those are more $ than the mic! Here's one for $10.50 https://www.monoprice.com/product?p_id=6149

Q: 10. Is it the same item as it is describe in your site?Do you ship this item to a FPO, AP address? Thanks!

A: The product we ship is the same product as described above. We will be happy to ship this microphone to an FPO, AP address for you.
