A unique lens with a distinctly bright design, the Leica DG Vario-Summilux 10-25mm f/1.7 ASPH. from Panasonic is a 20-50mm-equivalent zoom for Micro Four Thirds mirrorless cameras. The impressively fast f/1.7 constant maximum aperture enables improved depth of field control and low-light shooting capabilities throughout the zoom range. Balancing the impressive f/1.7 performance, the optical design incorporates a series of low dispersion, aspherical, and high refractive index elements, which help to greatly reduce chromatic and spherical aberrations for improved clarity and sharpness. Complementing the optics, this lens is also characterized by its durable, weather-sealed physical design, along with a fast autofocus system, versatile focusing clutch design, and a stepless, de-clicked aperture ring to suit video applications.

Wide-to-normal zoom is designed for Micro Four Thirds mirrorless cameras and offers a 20-50mm equivalent focal length range.

Impressively bright f/1,7 constant maximum aperture excels in low-light conditions throughout the zoom range and also offers improved depth of field control.

Three aspherical elements, four extra-low dispersion elements, and one ultra high-refractive index element all combine to suppress color fringing, chromatic aberrations, and spherical aberrations for high clarity, sharpness, and color accuracy.

Fast 240 fps autofocus drive, along with an internal focusing system, delivers smooth, accurate, and quiet focusing performance to benefit both stills and video applications. Additionally, a focus clutch mechanism delivers especially quick AF/MF switching.

Physical aperture ring has a stepless, de-clicked design for smooth, silent aperture switching to benefit video applications.

Splash, dust, and freezeproof design benefits working in inclement weather conditions.

Rounded nine-blade diaphragm contributes to a smooth and pleasing bokeh quality.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Is this a focus by wire lens?

A: Yes, the Panasonic Leica DG Vario-Summilux 10-25mm f/1.7 ASPH. Lens is a focus-by-wire lens and uses a stepping motor, but the Panasonic Leica DG Vario-Summilux 10-25mm f/1.7 ASPH. Lens is the first Panasonic Micro Four Thirds lens that also has a focus clutch which allows you to switch the lens from autofocus to manual focus. When the clutch is pulled back, the manual focus response is linear, and there are feedback stops at both ends of the focus range, though they are not hard stops. However, this does give you control over focus when manually focusing the lens, which should be a benefit for videographers.

Q: 2. What could I do to this lens to add more fov and more apperature? If anything

A: Unfortunately nothing can be done to add more fov or aperture. If you want that you need to get a full frame lens and add a speedbooster adapter.

This lens is a real game changer. The focal length of 10-25mm is perfect for most video work, going from wide angle to normal perspective. At f/1.7 this lens is very fast and the shallow depth of field is great for videos and photos. It is extremely well built and quite large for a micro four thirds lens. It will balance better on a larger body like the G9 or GH6. I love the manual focus clutch with soft stops at each extreme. The aperture ring is a welcome feature and is click-less which is great for video. Optically, it is extremely sharp in the center at all apertures and the corners are pretty sharp as well even wide open (but not tack sharp until you stop down to f2-2.8). This lens and the Panasonic Leica DG Vario-Summilux 25-50mm f/1.7 make a perfect pair and are well matched optically. These lenses are unique to the micro four thirds system and make a compelling case for the system as a whole.

This really is a marvelous lens. Sharpness is very good edge to edge at any focal length when at f1.7, with 10mm (20mm equiv.) being a tad softer than the other focal lengths. Stopped down sharpness is excellent by f2.8 and uniformly stupendous at f4-f5.6. Color and contrast are also excellent.

I don't do video so I leave the stepless aperture ring parked in A and use the camera dial for aperture selection. Zoom, focus and aperture rings all work smoothly and have a quality feel, as they should on lens of this price. Overall it feels and looks very well built. Manual focus is fast and accurate whether using the focus clutch or camera selected manual focus. Full focus range is covered by 1/4 to 1/3 of a turn of the dial.

This is a relatively large lens and is not light although it doesn't feel as heavy as it looks and I really have no problem carrying it for extended periods. I use it on my G9 which has a nice large grip and excellent ergonomics so the 10-25 fits it very nicely. I don't like things hanging from my neck, so I always use a wrist strap and bringing the G9 and 10-25 to my eye one-handed is easy.

Owning this lens is really like having a fast prime for every focal length from 10-25mm (20-50mm full frame equivalent) and without giving up the sharpness you expect from a higher end prime. I am very pleased with it.

This is one of the finest lenses I've had the privilege to use. It is sharp throughout the aperture and zoom range. It seems to be quite par focal (though I can't guarantee it). The build is terrific. The zoom, aperture and focus rings are very smooth, very well engineered. I use this lens for video (nature and environmental). It is certainly up to the challenge of shooting high resolution files. It is slightly heavy, but at F1.7 I'm not sure that's avoidable. I'm completely satisfied. I use it on a GH5 and a BMPCC4.

I just bought the Panasonic Leica DG Vario-Summilus 10-25mm f/1.7 lens, and the Lumix GH5. I am a newbie however when you connect those two devices it is hard to go wrong. I watched a YouTube video and I was ready to go. It takes amazing pictures, the separation of subject and background is almost like the old 3D cameras very refreshing results. I would highly recommend this combination.

Since I have purchased this lens for my GH6/G9 it hasn't left the body. The optical quality of this lens has blown me away. The detail and micro contrast is so good I didn't know what I was missing. I love the way this lens renders out of focus areas and the sharp focus falloff which gives it a wonderful shallow depth of field effect. The manual focus clutch is awesome, so is the click less aperture ring. Build quality is extremely good and the lens is styled beautifully as a bonus. It may cost more than your camera body, but that price is well worth it. Some say it's the lens and not the camera that makes an image great.

Very well made, sharp from f1.7 down.
Very useful zoom range.
If you shoot video, the step-less aperture control will be useful.
Became my EDC for the G9 the day it arrived and the lens has not been off the camera since it arrived.

For several years now, I have been waiting for this lens... or something like it. It is a fast, sharp, no compromise piece of glass that takes the viability of the M43 system up a notch or two- especially for motion work. The focus clutch mechanism makes manual focus far more predictable and pleasurable. Likewise, the clickless f-stops on the lens make tripod work quicker and more intuitive, along with the ability to ramp exposure more easily.

Yeah, it's expensive, big and fairly heavy- oh well. It's absolutely worth it. It is one lens that does many things well: lowlight, very wide angle, sharp, fast and a great operation experience.

My only gripe is that it took Panasonic this long to create this lens - why? It is a game changer for M43.

I stay with the Panasonic G9 and GH6 for lenses like this. Worth every penny. It's replacing my Panasonic Leica primes due to its matching size and performance with the 25-50 and its better performance than the primes. Which is crazy but true. The focus clutch was more useful before the linear focus update for Panasonic Leica lenses, but still great. Heavy, a little large, but stunning. I shot it alongside my older Nikon full-frame kit and immediately put it to rest. It is worthy of being a Leica branded lens, and even competes with my friend's Leica Q at the 28mm 1.7 equivalent.
If you shoot south of standard, buy this lens. I actually prefer it to a 24-70 after initially thinking I wouldn't. I had my eyes on it for two years but thought it was over-hyped (it wasn't).

Short of anything super far away this is the best lens for Panasonic MFT in my opinion. This has not come off since I got it.
If you shoot in Panasonic MFT's you will love this!
