The Ice 49mm HB760 Infrared Filter is designed to help capture images of how a subject reflects or transmits infrared light. Infrared light waves occupy the space in the electromagnetic spectrum behind visible light due to their longer wavelengths. Many surfaces and materials react to or emit infrared light waves differently than visible light waves, which provides the potential for photographs of subjects or subject properties that are otherwise invisible to the human eye. Such images require an infrared-sensitive medium such as infrared film or a digital photographic sensor, which may be more effective when used without the infrared-blocking filters frequently built over them.

Conventional light sources such as the sun, photographic strobes, or incandescent lighting may be used to provide infrared illumination. However, because infrared films or digital photographic sensors can be more sensitive to the relatively higher energy and shorter-wavelength visible light those sources also emit, the effects of infrared light can be otherwise obscured. This Ice 49mm HB760 Infrared Filter makes it possible to capture images of how subjects are illuminated by infrared light by blocking ultraviolet, visible, and near-infrared light waves 760nm or less from the lens it is mounted onto. This filter is constructed from optical glass for clarity as well as color fidelity. It features a slim, aluminum alloy filter ring that helps prevent vignetting while remaining durable and lightweight.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. will this work on sony alpha cameras? i heard you need to modify the camera in order for this to work? I have a7s and a6500

A: The filter works perfectly without any changes to the camera, do you need to do some post processing and you can check on YouTube. I highly recommend the filter

Q: 2. The first photo of this item shows a rectangular filter, but the description says circular. Which shape is it?

A: The Ice 84 x 98mm P Series Circular Polarizer Filter is a rectangular shape but the effect is called circular polarizer.

Q: 3. Does it rotate? Because when I use the compare tool to compare this filter to some other polarizer, in the "rotating" column this is listed as "not applicable".

A: Yes, the Hoya 77mm HRT Circular Polarizer UV Filter is a rotating circular polarizer filter, which you rotate to adjust the amount of polarization.

Q: 4. I want an infrared filter for my 70 to 300 nikon VR lens and for a fixed 50 vr lens. What do I need?

A: Purchase the filter you want to fit the larger of the two lenses then buy an adapter (also called a step-up ring) for the smaller. For instance, if your 70-300 lens uses a 77mm filter and your 50 uses a 52mm filter then purchase the 77mm filter and a 52 to 77 step-up ring.

Q: 5. how many stops of light should we compensate for with this filter?

A: We should compensate about 5-6 stops of light with the Hoya 62mm R72 Infrared Filter.

Q: 6. How many stops of light do you loose with this filter?

A: I don't have the exact figures with me here, but on a bright full-sun day my exposures using a Canon 5D MKIV and Canon 70-200 2.8 IS was 30 seconds @ f/2.8, 200 ISO. Hope that helps!

Q: 7. Will this filter work on a Fuji XE 2?

A: No it will not Infrared Filters are not made for digital cameras , all digital cameras have IR blocking filter and this filter blocks the other visible light

Q: 8. How well will this filter work in a snowy environment like Yellowstone in the winter?

A: While you can use an infrared filter to photograph snow, snow will still appear white. One issue with photographing in snowy conditions is the sky is normally overcast with clouds. The strongest infrared images tend to occur on clear, sunny days and with lots of foliage in the scene (foliage which is usually absent in the winter). That being said, if you capture images in the snow on a clear, sunny day and there are evergreen trees/bushes or other plants/trees that still have visible leaves that reflect infrared lighting, you would get dramatic images in these circumstances. Typically, when using the R72 infrared filter, the blue color of the sky will be darkened, while green foliage, like trees and grass, will appear in snow-like tones.

Q: 9. Will this filter work well on a Nikon D850?

A: My base settings on the D810 was, 30 sec, f/8, ISO 400. Early morning with shade. I was pleased with the results.

Q: 10. What is the wallet?

A: Unfortunately we do not have a photo of the wallet but it is made to hold the filters and is included with Ice Infrared HB760/850/950 Set with Wallet (82mm)
