Ice Hard-edge Graduated Nd Filter (100 X 150mm, 3-stop)

$194.85 $276.69

This 3-stop, 100 x 150mm Ice Hard-Edge Graduated ND Filter is compatible with filter holders that can accommodate filters that are 100mm wide and 2mm thick. It helps to darken specific areas of an image, such as bright skies, while allowing for a normal, unaffected exposure in the other regions of the image. The filter is densest at the edge and tapers to clear by the middle, with a hard-edged line of transition between the dense and clear areas. A neutral density filter with a hard-edged line of transition is particularly useful for images that feature horizons or any hard transition between the sky and land. Neutral density filters do not affect the coloration of the image and the density provides up to a 3-stop reduction in light from entering the lens.

This graduated ND filter is constructed from optical glass for clarity as well as color fidelity. A padded pouch is included for storage and transport.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Will this fit my Leica Q? I saw someone say that it wouldnt fit the leica 28mm lens.

A: Yes, the Leica Q takes a 49mm filter, so this will fit.

Q: 2. does it let you know what stop its set at ?

A: It has reference marks.

Q: 3. I have a RF 24-70mm lens, do I just place this acessory behind the lens? Would it fit?

A: No, this filter system is for use in the Canon EF to RF lens adapter that takes drop in filters.

Q: 4. Can you tell by feel, like a notch or something when you rotate for densities with is filter...If not which one has that you would recommend w/o breaking the bank to much?... Thanks in advance..

A: There are no notches or clicks as you rotate the filter. Rotation is smooth. I haven't used the filter in a large number of instances yet, but other reviewers have spoken highly of the lack of color shift. It is a hunk of glass, well built and most likely worth the investment. I chose it as a middle cost point with satisfied users.

Q: 5. Does the variable ND drop in filter fit in the Canon ef -R 0.71 speed booster?

A: No, the Canon Mount Adapter EF-EOS R 0.71x (seen here: https://bhpho.to/3OmrCw5) does not accept the Canon Drop-in Variable ND Filter A.

Q: 6. Is the thumb screw removable for use w/ a lens hood?

A: According to the manufacturer, the thumb screw on the the SmallRig 77mm MRC Variable ND Filter can be removed. However, SmallRig recommends not to use this filter with a lens hood.

Q: 7. Why is it MORE expensive to buy just the filter without the adapter included?

A: While Canon sets the MSRP on their items, as of the time/date of this reply, the cost of the Canon Drop-In Variable ND Filter A (1.5-9 Stop), BH #CADIVNDFA, and the Canon Drop-In Filter Mount Adapter EF-EOS R with Variable ND Filter, BH #CAMAEFRFDIND, on our website are currently the same price. However, I would simply recommend that if you are certain that you want the Variable ND Filter, as it is the most expensive of the filter options that are compatible for use with the Canon Drop-In Filter Mount Adapter EF-EOS R, I would simply recommend to purchase the adapter kit that comes with the Variable ND filter, the Canon Drop-In Filter Mount Adapter EF-EOS R with Variable ND Filter, BH #CAMAEFRFDIND.

Q: 8. What is a recommended storage case for the filter when not in the adapter?

A: A Domke 11x11" Color Coded Protective Wrap (Gray), B H # DOPW11G would be a suitable option to store this filter. https://bhpho.to/3t8GR0O

Q: 9. Is this a glass or film filter?

A: The Ice 77mm Solar Mc Nd100000 (Includes Magnetic Adapter Ring) is a glass filter.

Q: 10. How big is the actual filter? Will this drop in to the 52 mm filter slots at the back of Canon telephoto lenses?

A: I don't have the actual dimensions but the filter is permanently mounted in the holder and it will only fit into the canon drop in filter mount adapter. See BH #CAMAEFRFDIND.

For wide open apparatuses on bright days this is a great option so you do not have to sacrifice your depth of field. Very happy with this filter.

Fits easily on a Canon 18-200mm EF-S telephoto zoom lens. Takes down the glare in bright scenes.

I like and use both Hoya and B+W contrast filters for B&W film photography. Though I cannot see any difference in the actual images, it is definitely worth paying the extra for the MRC versions of the B+W filters when it comes time to clean them - they are *much* easier than the single-coated ones.

If you need a high quality NF filter B+W is the best choice

USE FOR PLEASURE , MAINLY FOR ANIMAL AND NATURE SHOTS. GREAT FILTER, YOU CAN FEEL THE QUALITY WHEN YOU PUT IT ON YOUR LENS. HEAVY BRASS CASING, GOOD GERMAN QUALITY. WELL WORTH THE MONEY.

My 5D mkII with the 24-70mm f/2.8 slid off my shoulder and slammed a rock sideway while on a hike in Yosemite. I thought the filter and the lens would be totally smacked. There was just a bit of exposed brass on the filter. Not a kink nor a crack. Good job Schneider Optics (B+W)! My other favorite brand are Helioplan and Rodenstock.
