The generous 55 lb load capacity of the RTH-1050 enables the smooth positioning of almost any type of camera, ranging from simple compact models up to heavy camera-plus-lens combinations, with stable and secure results.

The locking knob includes an integrated tension dial that sets the minimum amount of friction on the ball. This ensures there's friction, even when the main locking knob is disengaged. This feature assures control of your camera and lens when you need to quickly unlock and reposition the ball head.

The Arca-type compatible quick release plate allows the camera and lens set to be quickly mounted. It incorporates a bubble level for precise horizontal alignment, and a +/- 25mm scale for precise quick release plate positioning. The included AQR-60 quick release plate has a D-ring 1/4"-20" mounting screw, rubber traction strips to prevent camera rotation, and security pins to prevent it from accidentally releasing from the mounting platform while being positioned.

The panning base operates independently from the main tension knob and features its own locking knob. A highly visible precision scale adds simplicity to panoramic imaging and creating repeatable results.

For exceptional strength and stability, the RTH-1050 head is constructed with aircraft-grade aluminum that can stand up to demanding use and travel and perform at the highest level. All of the control knobs are cross-hatch knurled for easy gripping.

The base of the RTH-1050 ball head features an industry-standard 3/8"-16 mounting socket machined from corrosion-resistant brass, making it compatible with virtually any tripod leg set. The socket is made from reinforced brass to resist wear for long life and reliable, secure tightening.

Quickly change the camera orientation from landscape to portrait using the 90° notch.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. What is the vertical tilt of the IB2? The Benro B2 lists vertical tilt of -45° to +90°. Thanks in advance.

A: The IB2 has a -45 (wall) to +90 (notch) angle as well.

Q: 2. Why is this ball head not recommended for use on a monopod?

A: Typically ball heads offer too much motion when unlocked, which can be hard to handle when using a monopod. With only two hands to grip onto the camera or lens; monopod itself; or the head/tension release knob, using a ballhead could make it difficult to secure the lens in the correct position/orientation. Alternatively, using a monopod head limits the motion to a single axis via the primary tension knob, making it easier to adjust for tilt while not giving you any hassle with pan or roll.

Q: 3. Is this head suitable for a lightweight 4x5 wooden field camera? Chamonix N2

A: Yes, the following ball head will support a payload of 39lbs. The Chamonix N2 weighs close to 4lbs

Q: 4. Is the RTH-1050 compatible with the Robus CC-001 Center Column?

A: Yes. The Robus RTH-1050 Triple Action Ball Head is compatible with the Robus CC-001 Center Column for Vantage Series 3 and 5 Carbon Fiber Tripods.

Q: 6. Will the Peak Design Capture Clip V3 work with this head unit?

A: Im sorry Ive only use my ball head several times so I am not able to answer your question

Q: 7. Can this ball head be used on a monopod?

A: Yes, it will mount to a 3/8"-16 screw on a monopod without issue, although it's typically not recommended.

Q: 8. can the quick plate of this ball head fit to a Peak Design capture clip?

A: No. Only Peak Design plates (either regular or dual plate) work with the Capture Clip. Inversely, the Peak Design plates would fit into this head.

Q: 9. Is it fairly easy to unscrew the quick release base? What is the thread size of the ball stud?

A: Yes, It is easy to unscrew. I don't know the exactly size of the thread but which is a regular size for common fittings. I found no any problem to put it on my Gitzo.

Q: 10. What Nodal Rail will fit the RTH-1030. Is Nodal Rail from Really Right Stuff MPR-CL 5.7 or the Acratech Nodal Rail an ok fit?

A: Yes, both the RRS and the Acratech will fit the Robus RTH-1030 Triple Action Ball Head. Both of those rails are arca compatible and will work with the Robus that is also arca. Main thing you want to look for is how long the lens you are using. You want a rail that is similar to the length of your lens and camera. If the rail is much longer it may appear in the photo if you are using a wider angle lens. If the rail is too small you might not be able to place the center of the lens over the center of the tripod.

This is a great head. Easily adjustable, intuitive and flexible. I paired it with a dedicated Robus foot plate so swapping out with other heads is a breeze.

I needed a new ball head for my new Robus RC-8860 tripod. I wanted something reliable, able to hold at lest 20 pounds and without limitations. Most heads I have used in the past all had something I felt could have been better or missing. Everything about the RTH-1050 hits home for me. It has a nice large base that makes it easy to use and provides great support. The large nicely finished ball looks and works as well as any premium head I have ever used. The controls are a nice size with very good grip to use in any conditions with ease. I love the integrated tension control in the main knob. It provides great control WITHOUT HAVING AN EXTRA CONFUSING KNOB. I like how well the tension is controlled with the tension control while the main outside knob will lock down the ball in less than a quarter turn. The 90 degree portrait orientation notch is very accurate. And I was concerned about how tight the pan tension was when I first tried it. But after I spent some time spinning the head , it got better. Then after I put a camera and lens on it felt free but well dampened. There isn't anything I can find about this head that I can't give high marks. I find it hilarious that some take points off because of the bag that comes with this head. While it isn't a nice leather case, it isn't bad. And in truth, most real photographers will keep it in a Pelican case when not mounted on a tripod. And all a nicer case or bag would do is to add unnecessary cost. Where do you want your money spent, on better kit purchased or getting accessories you may never use!

The combination of controls on the RTH-1050 make it easy to adjust it and lock it in the position you want. I especially like the friction control, allowing you to select how much force is needed to move the head when making fine adjustments. The lockdown is firm and has held an FX camera, 3 pound lens, and focusing rail without any hint of slipping. The 360 panning adjustment needs to be tight to the tripod before you start if you're rotating the same direction as you would loosen it, but that's just common sense. Being able to rotate the full 360 has the advantage being able to start at any point. The bubble level works really well, but needs fairly good light to be seen accurately. Would buy it again without hesitation.

I have used the tripod and this ball head a few times including photographing the recent partial lunar eclipse. The ball head is solidly constructed, its main knob is well-placed and I have confidence that my camera and long lens are stable during use.
