Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. How are slides held in place? In the photo it appears that there are spring loaded covers, one per slide but I can't really tell.

A: There is a spring loaded slot that retains two opposing edges of each slide. You gently push one edge of the slide into the spring loaded slot from the opposing edge, then push down on the free edge while allowing the spring to push the free edge of the slide under two retaining clips. You remove the slide from the holder by re-compressing the spring from the edge under the retaining clips then pulling that edge away from the mount It is quite easy to do and very secure. It works for cardboard mounts and most plastic mounts. Some mounts with cover glass are too thick to slide into the slot.

Q: 2. If this holder is used on an Epson Perfection V600 scanner with EpsonScan software, will the software still automatically find and isolate each frame? Or would I have to marquee and scan each frame separately?

A: I tested the Plustek 35 mm film holder on my Epson V700. If your Epson V600 is similar enough to mine, it doesn't isolate each frame as the Plustek 8100 does. You would have to draw a selection area around each frame. However, the thickness of the film holders for the two scanners is not the same. I measured approx. 3 mm from glass to film for the Epson holder, and approx. 4.5 mm for the Plustek holder. Then I did a scan with each scanner. It was sharper on the Plustek, fuzzier on the Epson. Depth of field is very narrow on the scanners. The height difference creates unfocussed scans when the Plustek holder is used with the Epson scanner.

Q: 3. will these work with 7500i?

A: I used to have a 7500i scanner but replaced it with an 8200i Ai scanner. So I do not know if the 8100 slide holder works on a 7500i scanner. It would have made sense if the holder dimensions would have been kept the same for both scanners. However, it may also be worthwhile to get the 8200i Ai scanner. It does a better job.

Q: 4. Will these work for the Minolta Dimage 5400 slide scanner?

A: These slide holders will only work with the Plustek OpticFilm 8000 series scanners.

Q: 5. Is it compatible with Flashpoint PS8006?

A: This product is only compatible with the Plustek 8100 and 8200 Ai.

Q: 6. What is the thickness of the carrier? I'd like to use it with a Nikon ES 1 slide copier. Thanks!

A: I have negative and slide holders. The negative holder is 0.28 (7.0mm) thick and the slide holder is 0.29 (7.36mm). The width (just in case you're thinking of width instead) is 2.465 (62.6mm), the same for both.

Q: 7. Will this work for the Canoscan 9000F Mark II. ?

A: These holders are designed for the Plustek OpticFilm scanners. My guess is that they will put the film plane out of focus on the Canon 9000 flatbed scanner.

Q: 8. Will this Neg./Slide holders work for OpticFilm 8200i SE?

A: Yes, this product will work for the OpticFilm 8200i SE.

Q: 9. These holders seem to be sturdy. Could they be used to hold and scan negatives on a flat bed scanner such as the Epson Perfection film scanners?

A: Actually I wonder why you ask. It holds the negatives quite well but do not flatten them. There is a little gap between the film and glass of the scanner.

Q: 10. Will this fit my Plustek 7600i scanner?

A: The Plustek 35 mm Negative & Slide Holders for 8100 & 8200i Ai will be compatible with your 7600i scanner.

The film holders are hardy and well made.

The Geared plastic on both sides engage with the
Scanner for precise and safe positioning of the image
in the light path / image window.

Amongst the best film holders that have used so far.

I bought a Plustek scanner and it wasn't clear what trays came with it. It came with one negative holder and one slide holder but I thought it just came with two negative holders so I ordered two extra slide holders with the scanner thinking I would end up with two of each kind. Having two of each kind is nice when you are scanning a lot of slides because you can be loading one while the other is actually working away in the scanner.
Long story short I wanted two of each and ended up with three of each.
Buyer's tip: B&H actually sells a kit with one extra slide and negative holder. If you buy the scanner and you order the combo kit you will have two of each.

They work well with the Scanner. Having a couple more strips of negs ready to go makes the work flow that much faster.
