This 2 to 5-stop, 82mm Freewell Standard Day Variable ND Filter is designed to mount onto lenses with 82mm front filter threads and provides an exposure reduction of 2 to 5-stops. Its 0.6 to 1.5 density creates a darkening of the entire image, allowing you to photograph with a wider aperture or slower shutter speed than normally possible. The degree of density is easily controlled by rotating the front filter ring, helping you to predetermine the additional exposure length required. By slowing your exposure time or increasing your aperture, you are able to control depth of field or add motion blur. For easier, repeatable control over density settings, the front ring is visually demarcated with numbers representing the different stop values and features side knurlings to further enable fast and precise positioning.

This filter is constructed from Schott B270 glass for enhanced clarity and color fidelity. Each glass surface is multi-coated to help eliminate internal ghosting and reflections. The Freewell 82mm Standard Day Variable Neutral Density 0.6 to 1.5 Filter is also coated for resistance to oil, dust, and scratches, offering greater protection to the filter and helping it to stay clean for longer than with uncoated filters. The coatings are hydrophobic as well, resulting in an improved beading effect when in contact with water for greater cleaning efficiency.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. May i know what is the full diameter of the filter for 67mm, 72mm, 77mm, and 82mm?

A: Sorry I can't measure precisely but the system is no larger than standard filters. The diameter is about 2mm larger than the thread size and flush with the lens barrel. The magnetic system is built in to the rim of the filters so it does not take additional space.

Q: 2. Will a stock lens cap and lens hood for a Fujifilm X-T20 fit?

A: Because the filter is a slim design with no front threads, it's likely that your stock lens cap will not securely fit. If it does manage to grab the inside of the filter, the hold would be loose as the rim is very shallow. It does come with a easy to use magnetic lens cap. As for the hood, because the filter is the same diameter front to back, it should work with most lens hoods without obstruction of the bayonet mount. However, as lens hood design vary, it's impossible to say without situational testing.

Q: 3. Does this include the magnetic cap that the other freewill VND filters have?

A: Yes, the lens cap would be included with the purchase of the Freewell Mist Edition Threaded Bright Day Variable ND Filter (2-5 Stops, 82mm), B&H # FRFW82MVNDST.

Q: 4. What is included in the box beside the filters and the cap? How do you clip the filters to the lens? Does this purchase includes something like a base magnet ring?

A: Beside the filter and the magnetic lens cap, cleaning cloth and case is included. It's a screw in type lens so it has thread that connects to the lens. Only the lens cap is magnetic.

Q: 5. What about vignetting with a sony gm 16-35mm lens ?

A: The 16-35mm GM already has a slight vignette at 16mm if you shoot RAW with profile corrections in-camera turned off. If you enable it, the vignette would be removed. Alternatively Lightroom/Capture One automatically removes it with the profile corrections it has. The filter itself is very well made and will not cause a vignette.

Q: 6. Is this VND "clear" or "off" before turning to position 2 or higher?

A: No. There is no way to turn it "off". The minimum filter factor / density would be 0.6 / 2-stops and 1.8 / 6-stops.

Q: 7. Does the ring "snap" to each stop?

A: The Freewell 67mm Standard Day Variable Neutral Density 0.6 to 1.5 Filter (2 to 5-Stop) does not "snap" to each stop

Q: 8. What is the weight in grams of the filter itself (without magnetic lens cover)?

A: The Freewell 82mm All-day Variable ND filter weighs 71 g without the lens cap.

Q: 9. Would I be able to stick a magnetic mist filter to the front of one of these??(A 95mm magnetic mist filter to 95mm vnd one?)

A: While the Freewell 95mm All-Day Variable Neutral Density 0.6 to 1.5 and 1.8 to 2.7 Filter Kit (2 to 5 and 6 to 9-Stop) do work with the included magnetic caps, there is no guarantee they will work with a magnetic filter.

Q: 10. I need this filter but with mist 1/8...

A: Here is the link to the same filter but with a 1/8 mist: https://bhpho.to/39elov0
