The Star Quad series has been engineered to dramatically reduce hum and electromagnetic interference (EMI) for outstanding signal transparency both in the studio and on stage. Designed to virtually eliminate handling noise, this cable is well-suited for connecting a balanced 1/4" TRS audio output, like those found on many mics and instruments, to a balanced XLR input on a mixer, PA speaker, or similar device.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Why does the photo a show 3-pin to 3-pin XLR cable?

A: Thank you for spotting this error. We will update this image shortly.

Q: 2. are all five wires connected end to end?

A: Yes all 5 pins are connected end to end. We use ours for extension headset cable and it works great.

Q: 3. Will this fit a Sony ECM-680s mic ?

A: Hi Cristian, We can only recommend use of this cable with Lewitt mics. We cannot guarantee functionality with mics from any manufacturers. Best, AM&S Technical Support

Q: 4. Is this TRS or TS? The description says TRS but the photo shows TS.

A: The Mogami SS-01 PurePatch cable is TRS, not TS. We will update the photo right away. Thank you for pointing out that we have the wrong photo posted for the 1-foot length cable. You can see the correct photo showing TRS connectors posted for all of the other available lengths. For example, B&H # MOPPTRSTRS2 is the 2-foot version of the same PurePatch cable and the photo shows the correct TRS connectors.

Q: 5. Will this connect a Sennheiser EW G3/G4 RX to a MixPre's XLR input? If so, is it 100 (unbalanced) or 500 (balanced) wiring?

A: No, the Deity Microphones V-Link 3.5mm TRS Male to XLR 3-Pin Male Microphone Adapter Cable is not compatible for connection to a Sennheiser receiver. For a similar cable that is compatible for use with a Sennheiser wireless receiver, you can use the Cable Techniques Right-Angle Locking 3.5mm TRS to Low-Profile XLR Male Coiled Cable for Sennheiser (B&H # CACCG4X3M8) or the Sennheiser CL 35-XLR Right-Angle Locking 3.5mm TRS to XLR Male Coiled Output Cable (B&H # SE700062).

Q: 6. How is this cable wired? Does it have resistors to isolate the L & R Channels summed to the XLR for a Balanced input? or are the L & R Channel directly summed without any isolation?

A: This particular cable is a mono ts connection on the 3.5mm connector. It would only see the L channel of a stereo signal. There are no resistors in this cable.

Q: 7. Roland's list for this RCC-3-TRXM cable subtitles it a "balanced interconnect cable," but the product package diagram shows one lead and one shield; no 3rd lead for balancing signal. So which is this: bal/unbal?

A: The RCC-3-TRXM is a balanced audio cable. The XLR and 1/4" TRS connectors provide a balanced signal.

Q: 8. need country of origin for XLM5-XLF5-10 please?

A: The Sescom XLM5-XLF5-10 Belden Star-Quad & Neutrik 5-Pin XLR Male to 5-Pin XLR Female Audio Cable is manufactured in the United States.

Q: 9. Is there anything special about these cables? ie will a normal TRS to BNC/XLR/LEMO etc cable work the same?

A: Tentacle Sync C04 cable is built to send the signal in one direction from a Tentacle Sync device into an XLR input. Here is a link to the Tentacle Sync page for it, with further details. https://tentaclesync.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/articles/115005320425-Pinouts-and-wiring-diagrams-for-Tentacle-cables

Q: 10. If I use this with a camera or recorder that has two stereo xlr inputs but records to only 2 channels (Such as a Sony FS100), will I be able to use the other XLR input for the second channel, or does Tentacle sync record timecode to one track, and reference audio to the second?

A: To answer your question, yes. While it is true that the Tentacle transmits two channels, this adapter only connects to the channel that transmits the timecode. The schematic for this adapter (on the manufacturers site) clearly shows the timecode out of the Tentacle is connected to pin 2 of the XLR and both remaining XLR pins are connected to the ground.Besides, the way a standard XLR connector is wired allows it to only transmit the signal of one audio channel anyway, so only the timecode goes to one audio channel of your camera or recorder, and you can use the other XLR connector on your camera or recorder for any other audio you wish.
