Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Is this available in luster?

A: Unfortunately, this paper is currently available only in glossy and emulsion-in.

Q: 2. Is this paper archival?

A: No, there is no mention of any kind of archival properties for the Canon GP-701 Photo Paper Glossy (8.5 x 11", 100 Sheets). Please consider Kodak Professional Archival Inkjet Matte Photo Paper (8.5 x 11", 50 Sheets), B&H # KOPROML50, or Premier Imaging Alise Photo Grade Fine Art Bright White Paper (8.5 x 11", 20 Sheets), B&H # PRAPGBW85112, for your archival needs.

Q: 3. I have old and recent b&w slides; anyone have experience printing with an enlarger on this paper? Pre-flash? General exposure length? Preferred developer? Thanks in advance!

A: As always, our wonderful customers are a great resource. Please look to the product reviews for the answers to your questions. Used with care, this paper produces great results.

Q: 4. Please estimate exposure times Aprox. exposure times in a conventional 5 X 7 view camera?

A: I hope this helps, the ISO is rated about 3.

Q: 5. Can you leave this paper after exposing in the fridge for a period of time before developing? Not near a darkroom

A: You can hold off processing the HARMAN technology Direct Positive Fiber Based (FB) Paper (Glossy, 4 x 5", 25 Sheets). But do not do that for long times. It is best to process right away but you can wait a few days or so.

Q: 6. I've been using this paper for over 5 years but the last two boxes I've bought of this paper haven't been true 11x14 size. A tiny bit bigger which means it doesn't fit in my Delta1 proof holder for doing contact sheets. Has anyone else had this problem? It's really annoying having to trim every sheet a fraction of an inch so it will fit in the holder.

A: The paper I bought on September 9th actually has opposite problem. The sheets are about a 1/16 short. The emulsion number is 887108 A/91. We do most of our contact sheets digitally so we use very little sheet paper, maybe 300 sheets a year, and we just use an over sized piece of acrylic when we are contacting. sorry I couldn't be more help.Keith

Q: 7. Will this paper be damaged by airport security check X-ray scan machines or it's package protects the paper from this problem ?

A: Theoretically, it is possible that high strength X-ray machines can fog film or paper, which is typically the case with checked bagged rather than hand-carry/carry-on which typically use a weaker form of x-ray radiation.

Q: 8. After pre-flashing, can I use it a few hours or days later? Or should it be used immediately?

A: There is no set time listed for storing pre flashed HARMAN technology Direct Positive Fiber Based (FB) Paper (Glossy, 4 x 5", 25 Sheets). As with all photographic materials, they do degrade over time - so the shorter the time frame, the better. Be sure to store all papers in a cool and dry environment.

Q: 9. Does the manufacturer has an ISO for this paper ?

A: The Technical Information data sheet for the Ilford Harman Direct Positive Fiber Based (FB) Paper sates the paper has a slow ISO speed (between ISO 1 - 3), enabling a good latitude of control.

Q: 10. Can I use this paper for pinhole cameras without preflashing it ? How would be the results if not preflashed ?

A: Yes you can use this paper without a pre-flash with a pinhole camera, but it will be more contrasty due to the long exposure and relative slow ISO (I think around 7). You'll get more tonality with a pre-flash. One thing about this paper is YOU CANNOT handle it under amber safelight.

I've been printing with this paper for a long time but just started with this size. Same amazing paper, same consistency - it's a classic. Definitely the paper to get started with if you're new to the darkroom, and will probably be the one you keep going back to for your everyday printing.

Great product, the prints come out beautifully! I have had no problems with it. I am in a black and white class and I have used Ilford products through this class. No disappointments here!

Ilford puts out great products and this paper is no exception. The base is very bright. The silver has smooth transitions and very dark blacks. Tones beautifully neutral in selenium.
