Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Where is this clothe manufactured? Thanks.

A: The country of origin for the ARRI Optical Cleaning Cloth (14.6 X 17.7") is Japan.

Q: 2. Is this essentially the same stuff as Pancro Optical Cleaner and Eclipse Sensor/Optics cleaner? I use Pancro for my lenses and Eclipse for my digital sensors, but need something to clean my scanner platen. I hear Purosol is good, but will my Pancro or Eclipse do the same exact thing?

A: If you want more detailed info. on a product, I suggest you Google MSDS (Material Safety Data Sheet). I chose Purosol because they claim it contains no harmful solvents, and 'trusted' by an extensive range of professionals. Pancro touts 'fast drying'. Alcohol is fast drying. I'd definitely look at their MSDS. You never ever want to use alcohol on a coated lens, which all camera lenses have. I assume you have checked the 3-star rating on 'Eclipse'? Not encouraging. Finally, any scanner platen's I've seen are just plain glass. Walmart's el cheapo glass cleaner is all I use for a cleaning platen. It has ammonia. Works great on glass, but never, ever on a lens. What makes a quality lens cleaner expensive is the process: a good lab uses a safe room , (dust free ventilation). And at least a distillation process, a deionization filter, and pH adjusted to neutral 7.0. All this takes time and costs big bucks. My sense is that is at least part of the process used by Purosol. Anway, it's what I feel most comfortable using on my lenses for whatever that's worth?

Q: 3. Is this for a single cloth or four cloths?

A: It comes with only 1 cloth. The cloth is 12 x 15 in size and comes with a protective plastic envelope.

Q: 4. When the grip-side is peeled off the inside packaging it leaves a dark red residue on the cardstock...while I understand this is from the silicone grip dots (which do not face the lens) will this residue transfer to other things in my camera bag or to my fingertips (and thus, my camera?) Or is it simply residue from its initial packaging/shipping?

A: The textured rubber dots are designed to help you to grip the cloth. They should not be left in contact with other items. While we would not expect rubber to leave a mark in typical conditions, we would also not leave it in contact with anything that will be especially sensitive for long periods, nor at high temperatures, nor while exposing it to certain caustic chemicals. In other words, it's soft rubber, so you'll want to treat it as you would any typical rubber. Absent such conditions, we would not expect any sort of plastic or rubber to transfer to other surfaces. Please note that the instructions are only to wash it in cold water and presumably with a typical (and not an industrial) detergent.

Q: 5. Can I use Purosol to clean my camera sensor?

A: No, it probably does not evaporate fast enough and may leave a film.

Q: 6. Is this safe for lens elements?

A: Hi Chris, While the material itself is safe for lens elements, you need to be sure there are not any particles trapped on the Chamois that could harm the lens surface. The best option is to use a disposable wipe, like rosco tissues, or use our new Bluestar Lens Cleaning Cloth that we have designed specifically for optics from start to finish. But again, if you use any reusable cloth, you need to take very good care of it to be sure no harmful particles are trapped on the material. Let us know if you have any more questions. Andrew O. Q: 7. Can you hot-swap batteries for continual power?

A: Yes, you can hot-swap batteries.

Q: 8. A good micro cloth should be machine washable. Is this cloth washable with the attached bag?

A: Yes.

Q: 9. Is there a recommended method to clean this cloth when it has become soiled? Or just replace it?

A: The ZEISS Jumbo Microfiber Cleaning Cloth (12 x 16") can be cleaned in a washing machine. But never put it into the dryer. It needs to air dry.

Q: 10. Has anyone used this on carpet? Does it remove well and not leave residue? I need to stick floor cable covers to a carpeted floor, but also need to move the cable covers from time to time. Thanks!

A: No these will not stick to carpet, we do sell "Secure Cord" Boxed Nylon Carpet Cable Cover in different sizes.

Great lens cleaner. I used to use my sunglasses cloth for cleaning lens but this is way better because of the much larger size and thicker material. Glad I bought it.

If you've got expensive Zeiss lenses, you don't want to use anything less the best cleaning tools for them. I've used this cloth on my lenses and found it to safe and effective.

I've had a ton of lens cloths over the years or just about any variety you can imagine. This one is a thicker and softer cloth (not the 'silk' feel of so many of the others) and it is a huge cloth. Works great and the price is right, so do what I did and stash them all over the place.

These cloths are perfect for the camera bag.  I bought two so that I would never be without a clean one.  They are thick and large and work great to clean my lenses.
