Schoeps Mk 4v Microphone Capsule With Matched Pair (2-pack, Matte Gray)
  • Product Code: ga8223
  • Availability: In Stock

$5,382.00 $7,480.98

The gray matte MK 4V Microphone Capsule with Matched Pair from Schoeps maintains directional response even at higher frequencies because of its acoustically transparent housing. This microphone capsule has less high-frequency emphasis of off-axis sound.

The MK 4V Microphone Capsule features a cardioid capsule with its main axis along the side. In addition to its usefulness in a concert hall, this capsule type is of particular value in speech recording since its slight emphasis around 10 kHz helps improve intelligibility. This microphone capsule can be used for speech applications using the PR 120 SV Pop Filter (sold separately).

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. May I ask whether this is the limited production run set, please?

A: Yes. This is the limited production model. There are very few left.

Q: 2. Is having a matched pair important for doing a two person YouTube video podcast via two overhead KM 185 boomed mics?

A: Matched pair microphones becomes a critical choice for critical vocal and musical recording. Not an issue for your application at all.

Q: 3. Can the capsules be interchanged for omnis? Confusing because the Sound on Sound review said they are fixed but I see omni caps in your inventory.

A: Yes, you can use the sE8 Omni Microphone Capsules - Matched Pair (B&H # SE8OMNICAPPR) in place of the cardioid capsules that come with sE8 microphones.

Q: 4. This is a 2 microphone package (stereo pair) for $159? or just one mic for that price?

A: Yes, this package comes with two mics (stereo pair) plus the shock mounts for both, along with a carrying case.

Q: 5. Where are these made?

A: The ART M-Six Stereo Pencil Condenser Microphone (Matched Pair) are made in China.

Q: 6. anyone have a preferred softie windjammer for this mic that doesn't add too much bulk to it? lots of the ones listed for accessories here are for regular length shotguns. thanks

A: Given its extremely small size, presently there is no softie windjammer available. The best way to shield the Schoeps MiniCMIT against wind noise is by using a windshield kit; BH# RY086072.

Q: 7. Can these also accept capsules from SKM-185? In other words; are they interchangeable?

A: No. These are fixed capsules. The KM 100 series has interchangeable capsules.

Q: 8. What are the differences between cmc1 and cmc1u? tks.

A: The "CMC 1 U" is the part identifier for the amplifier portion of the Schoeps CMC 1 (the body of the microphone), without any capsule. The Schoeps CMC 1 Microphone Amp, MK 41 Supercardioid Condenser Capsule, and Cinela Windshield (Matte Gray) includes the amplifier, the MK 41 capsule, and a windshield.

Q: 9. Hello! With this microphone amplifier, will I still need phantom power to connect a condenser microphone to a camera like the Sony A7SIII, or a recorder like the Atomos Ninja V? If so, what do you recommend?

A: This amplifier is designed to work with the Shoeps MK series capsules, and will still require phantom power to run.

Q: 10. Have users enjoyed good results when recording live string and orchestral performances? Would you recommend a different model for strings? Perhaps even a different brand?

A: It would depend on the size of the string section and the stereo technique you are using. For a small string section recorded in an XY or ORTF technique the KM 184 is perfect. But if you are talking about a full string section 30 to 60 people then no not the right mic. The capsule is to small and the stereo techniques are not broad enough. I would suggest the Microtech Gefell M 930 Large-Diaphragm . The stereo technique I would suggest the MS or Blumlein. With these mic's and either of those techniques the stereo imaging would be spectacular.

Schoeps says that there's no discernible difference in sound quality, but when I heard this one, I put my CMC6 up for sale immediately.

The higher SPLs do make a difference; and to my ear the CMC1 has a more clean and transparent sound to it. I know that sounds lame, but it's hard to describe. This CMC1 is amazing.

HIGHLY recommended.

Our projects cover just about any subject, in almost any context. Currently, we're working in the wild recording natural sounds and conducting interviews surrounded by interested birds, bugs and lovely bucoli airiness. This appropriately blue microphone, combined with our Sound Devices mixer (also purchased at B&H), has made a gentle heaven of these earthly sounds and made our interviews sharp, clean and absolutely authentic. It's remarkable weight (almost nothing) and built-in low cut, gradual low cut and presence settings make it more flexible... suitable for interior voice recording. I've tried and tried to think of what might be a drawback about this amazing bit of technology, but I can't think of a thing. Using it is simply a humbling experience. Thank you Scheops!

outstanding mike, neutral and terrific sound, the only drawback is it cannot stand humidity. the best you can get for outdoor recording.

I've used this mic for interior interview style shoots and it has performed perfectly. True to what others have said about it, the mic really captures the true sound with no coloration of signal and very good side rejection. If you are booming, you have to cue carefully due to its high directivity but when you hit the sweet spot, this mic shines. The two cut filters and one boost work as you would expect from a mic of this quality and I can't wait to use this mic in some more demanding situations. This mic has taken its place right next to my MKH 50 and Sanken CS2 as a valuable part of my arsenal. Have not used it yet in high humidity or outside.

I'm using this mic to not over to provide voice-over commentary for a documentary that I'm working on, but also for Zoom meetings. Together, with the absolutely tiny stand (Schoeps TCg Miniature Table Stand), the mic is a discrete 'boom' mic that disappears on the desktop and avoids extraneous room sounds. While expensive, the quality and size are unbeatable.

And if you're already using the mic for its typical use, it can now dual-purpose as a very high quality desktop mic using the Schoeps TCg stand.

I use a pair of these for my MS setup(cmc1’s, mk8, mk22). When these were released in 2019 it was welcomed with open arms. I went from a 13” to 6.7” Rycote windshield. Amazing! Size and weight is a big deal for me as I hike to my locations and I carry the mentioned MS setup plus an ORTF(2 ccm4’s). They perform excellent as expected and they draw less battery power than the CMC6. I had no reason to not own a pair.

Bought this mic a year ago primarily for broadcast EFP high def video work with Rycote's WindJammer. Looked at Sennheiser but I feel that this is a newer design and want a unique sounding mic vs. the typical Senn. 416. The shotgun performed very well in virtually all scenarios. It sounds like I put a high quality lav right at the bottom of the shirt but it doesn't have that lav characteristic. There are times where it's very annoying to see a lav being mic'd up on the talent's body OR high wind condition. This lightweight blue beauty fits the bill virtually all the times. High tolerance to off axis positioning. Forgiving at times for novice boom op. It sounds very crisp, accurate and has that condenser quality to dialogue field recording. Incredible clarity on male dialogue recording. Only small complaint is that it will not reject high ambient noise situation. I'd have to have a 2nd mic just for that situation. Also, very good reach. Most of the shoot the mic had to be placed about 4-5 feet on top of talent's head and it performed like it was within 1 foot. Expensive but it's a shot gun mic that you don't have to upgrade much or ever have the need to worry about depreciating. It actually costs about $150 more this year due to unsteady dollar. Get it fast before another price hike.

First I have to say the price is only scary if you haven't heard the mic. Read the specs and you will see it is amazing. Does it deliver? The answer, YES! First I will tell you even my sound guy ( I come from sound as well, not just a shooter who could give a rats knees)My sound guy looked at me side ways when I told him I bought this mic. You see in the past I had issues with an older Schoeps that was great for interviews but in the field failed. This was not the case with the CMIT5U! This mic out preforms anything I have used. In a crowded VIP room with limited time and movie stars, we couldn't mic them, we just had the shotgun. With the on mic trim we used it on them and in post the editor who was in the field commented wow I didn't think we were getting anything and it really focused on the subject while omitting the room! I am amazed!. It is solid, never fails, better than any Neumann KMR81, Sennhieser etc... It is perfect for Film, tough enough for ENG (but too good for that) and better than anything I have heard thus far. On the mic you can trim and it takes it with the sweet presence and color you expect of a world class mic. On a scale from 1-10...mine now goes to 11! You will awe editors and other techs alike. But here is one warning, don't gloat to much, let the mic do the work and the editor will say something on your behalf, let them gloat for you!
