The 3-stop, 138mm Tiffen Combination Light Balancing 81EF/ND Filter combines the effects of an 81EF light balancing filter with a neutral density filter. An 81EF filter, the strongest in the 81 series, will more than replace the yellow missing from the image and place all skin tones on a distinctly "warmish" level. Neutral density filters appear gray and reduce the amount of light entering the lens. They have no effect on color balance and are very useful when you want to shoot high-speed film outdoors on a very bright day.

Tiffen's ColorCore glass is produced through a process that entails permanently laminating the filter material in between two pieces of optical glass that are ground flat to tolerances of 1/10,000th of an inch, then mounted in precision aluminum rings. This process makes for greater accuracy of color as opposed to glass that is simply dyed and become subject to deviation during the dye process.

  • Decrease depth of field by allowing wider apertures to be used, which helps separate subjects from their backgrounds

Q: 4. Normal 85b is reduced by 0.6 stops. This is normal 85b(0.6) + nd(0.3) product?? Or does the new technology mean that the 85b filter itself only reduces 0.3 stops?

Since I haven't spent a lot of time trying the filter out, just received it, I can't really say a lot about the quality of it. It seems to work fine though, does what it should and doesn't seem to affect the IQ negatively.

My inky experience is with B&H, which does what they do best at all time. Fast order processing, shipping done fast, and prices which makes it worth purchasing from them, even internationally, so that is what my rating is for. Great job B&H.

feels nice and sturdy. Allowed me to shoot wide open on a sunny beach and that's what I got it for. good stuff. Tiffen filters are always a safe bet. more expensive than some, less than others, but you know you're getting a consistently high quality product.

This filter worked well to allow longer exposures in daylight photos. No noticeable image degradation.

It is a great price and it works very well. I use it when I shoot at 1.4 in the Arizona daylight.

I was actually able to get useable footage on an outdoors day in bright sunlight! It was painful changing shutter speed and aperture to the extremes just to get useable video footage. I would recommend getting a stronger one or multiple if shooting at really wide apertures, I was able to use this at f-8 (without it I would have to shoot at like f-16, which makes lens imperfections such as dust visible). So if you want a really dramatic bokeh, get more of these, but overall the 3 stop is very versatile.

This filter slows my shutter speeds down to help blur water falls to give them a softer look. It makes it much easier than manually adjusting my shutter speed.

I recently purchased the Tiffen 58mm ND .9 Filter (3-stop) and I'm happy to say I'm very pleased with it! I bought it specifically for our vacation for waterfall photos. I had never photographed waterfalls before & I got exactly what I envisioned!! Thank you B & H Photo for carrying the best equipment!!
