This black Solid Foam Teardrop Popscreen from Schoeps is an acoustic foam close-speech popscreen intended for use with Schoeps Colette Series microphones, but compatible with other microphone capsules as well. It provides sufficient protection at normal speaking distances for cardioids and other directional capsules, especially when speech capsules are used. Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Would mounting this on camera work well when trying to get audio of a moving documentary subject?

A: Yes, the Schoeps CMC641 Set Colette Series Supercardioid Microphone Set could indeed serve as a high-quality on-camera microphone for capturing the audio of subjects in close range situations. The camera would need to be equipped with a 48V capable XLR input connection to accommodate the Schoeps.

Q: 2. How far can a speaker be and the cmc641 would still pic up the voice

A: Beyond 5-6 feet, a speaking voice will start to sound distant from the Schoeps CMC641 Set Colette Series Supercardioid Microphone Set (Gray).

Q: 3. Is this different than the foam windscreen that's included with the CMC641? Thanks.

A: yes, these are different. the screens that come stock with Schoeps mics are the cheaper B5 screens, which are made from ALL foam. these B5D's have a hollow interior like a basket type windscreen, with a velvety foam exterior covering. the B5's will do fine if the mic setup isn't moving, but if you're using the mics on a boom pole, you'll want the B5D's, because they have better "wind" and movement protection vs the cheaper B5's. supposedly, you can hear a "swoosh" effect when moving the mics on a boom pole too quickly! however, I'm a "taper" who records live Audio music with a stereo mic setup, and I just bought these to use indoors if my mic stand gets bumped or there are fans inside of the venue I'm recording at! so it depends on how you're going to use your mic/s. I hope that was helpful!

Q: 4. What are the differences between this set and the CMIT 5u?

A: The Schoeps CMIT 5U is a 9.9" shotgun microphone with a supercardioid and lobar pickup pattern while the Schoeps Colette Mono Kit is a compact Colette Series modular supercardioid condenser microphone bundle that includes the modular MK41 Supercardioid Condenser Microphone Capsule, the CUT 60 Low-Cut Filter for Colette Series Microphones CMC 1, and the CMC 1 U Miniature Colette Microphone Amplifier. The mic capsule is only 0.9" and the mic amp is 1.4".

Q: 5. Will this fit and replace the Sennheiser 416 windscreen?

A: This 2mm too big for the MKH416.

Q: 6. Hey guys, is this product the right one to get if I plan on using with a SD 633 mixer which can supply 48V phantom? It's confusing to know whether I need this or the more expensive $1900 mic. How does it compare with Senn 8060 or MKH 50? Is this mic no good in humid conditions or with possible RF interference?

A: Thank you for your Question. If humidity and RF are a big concern i would highly recommend sticking with the 8060. The Schoeps is great but it does not have built in protections again humidity or RF interference.

Q: 7. Do they make these in black?

A: The Schoeps B5-D Hollow Foam Windscreen is available in gray, and chroma green. Unfortunately, there isn't a black color available. Here is a link to the Chroma Green version: https://bhpho.to/3IO8zHM

Q: 8. May I ask whether this is the limited production run set, please?

A: Yes. This is the limited production model. There are very few left.

Q: 9. Is there a recommended field recorder for a high end mic like this? Is a Zoom F3 good enough?

A: The Zoom F3 would be an excellent choice for use with the Schoeps CMC641. It offers high-quality recording in 32-bit, which allows for great dynamic range with sensitive microphones.

Q: 10. Will this fit the Rode NTG5 ?

A: The W 140 foam windscreen is designed for use with the Schoeps CMIT5U and MiniCMIT microphones which both have a 21mm diameter while the NTG5 has a 19mm diameter, so the windscreen may be too loose. The W 140 is 5" long and the diameter for compatible microphones is listed as 41 to 50mm (Schoeps has confirmed that this information for the diameter measurement is correct, though it does seem unusual). We have not tested the W 140 on the NTG5. Since the chroma green W 140 is a special order item that is not returnable, you may want to hold off and test out one of the black or blue W 140 windscreens first, which are eligible for return. You may also want to try contacting Rode to ask if they have a chroma green foam windscreen available that will fit. You can reach Rode by phone at 562-364-7400. Their US offices are based in California.
