The Celestron NexStar Evolution 9.25 235mm f/10 AZ GoTo Schmidt-Cassegrain OTA & Mount is a powerful, portable, versatile, and user-friendly telescope that can be used for observing everything from the moon and planets to deep-sky objects like galaxies and nebulae. Using Celestron's proprietary StarBright XLT multicoating system, light transmission is increased through the entire optical path with anti-reflection multicoated lenses and highly reflective multicoated four-element rare-earth glass mirrors. While the focal ratio is a slow f/10, the scope's precision tracking system allows it to be a competent astrophotography/astroimaging platform for the moon and planets.

The Evolution comes with two ways to use and control it. The first is to simply download Celestron's free Navigator app for Android and iOS smartphones and tablets. The scope's Wi-Fi provides the connection to the app and expands its capabilities, including an expanded database of over 120,000 objects with detailed information on more than 200 of those objects. Second is the iconic 2-line 16-character NexStar+ computer controller. This is a wired piece of hardware with a database of over 40,000 celestial objects plus several astronomical catalogs, including the Messier and Caldwell. Whether using the controller or a mobile device, the system can assist in properly aligning the scope, provide tours of the objects and events visible whenever and wherever you're viewing, and allow for manual direction and slew control.

Designed for portability, the Evolution features a long-life lithium-iron phosphate battery that provides up to 10 hours of continual use on a single charge. The scope comes with an AC power supply with plugs for the US, EU, UK, and AU outlets. The battery powers the servo motors, auxiliary accessory ports, USB charging port, and built-in Wi-Fi module. Manual clutches in both altitude and azimuth enable you to manually move and point the telescope when it's powered off.

Had this for 1 year now.

This scope has surprised me as to its quality, ease of use, transportablity and performance.

Set up is well thought out, with both the tri-pod and mount being of sturdy construction and intuitive to use.

Optics are fantastic, I am running a 2 inch visual back and explore scientific 2 inch lens. I use the sky portal app and iphone for the control. All works as it should.

This is my first telescope, and I have been impressed. It was easy to set up, and the skyalign three bright star alignment procedure is very easy. You just point the telescope at any three bright stars (you don't have to know what they are) and the telescope will figure it out and give you a good alignment for the rest of the night. I can put the system together and get aligned in less than 15 minutes. It is easy to use the hand-held controller to find objects in the sky. I was able to have a good time looking at the moon and deep sky objects on my first night of use. My one complaint is about the red dot starfinder. It was so far off line when I mounted it that it couldn't be aligned with the scope within the limits of the adjustment screws. I had to make shims with toothpicks to get the starfinder in close enough alignment that I could then use the alignment screws to achieve good alignment. Everything about this scope seems first rate except for the starfinder and its mount. I am very happy with my purchase.

I've only been able to use the Celestron NexStar Evolution 8 once but so far I am very impressed with it. The main selling point for me was the 8 inch aperture, built-in rechargeable battery, and the manual clutches. Setting up the scope is extremely easy and the wifi feature is convenient and a nice option to have. Using Celestron's X-Cel LX 9mm and 12mm eyepieces, I viewed Jupiter and Saturn which were very sharp but getting perfect focus takes a little finessing.

This scope has a fine level of sophistication and capabilities. The StarSense works as advertised and is quite accurate. I like some of my Tele Vue Panoptic eyepieces better than the two Celestron Plossl included eyepieces. I've only had it a few days but the bands and moons of Jupiter and Saturn's rings were very clearly visible, and impressive to my wife. The built-in wifi works fine with the free iPhone software or with the commercial SkySafari. I must admit I was a little apprehensive of B&H really having the scope, since everyone else had it on backorder and Celestron told me the next shipment was going to be in mid- to late-August, but sure enough, here it came on the date they promised. WOW! B&H will get more of my business in the future.

This was my first real telescope. I spent about a year researching and started looking at much smaller scopes and slowly increased the aperture I was looking for. I settled on the celestron nexstar Evo 8 as My goal was to be able to see deep sky as well as planets. I have only used it a few times and alignment was a breeze and tracking worked well. I live in a suburban area with a lot of light polution and can only see a few dozen stars with the naked eye. I was able to see thousands more stars, resolve double stars, and see some star clusters without issue. The releaseable clutches is a great feature and allows use of the telescope without powering up the mount. I have plans to take this telescope to areas with much darker skis once the weather warms up.

I had been trying to find the Celestron NexStar Evolution 8 scope in stock for two months. I contacted 5 dealers around the country and soon I found that B&H got them in stock so I immediately ordered one. Interesting how three dealers on the west coast and one in the midwest said they didn't know when they would have this scope in stock but B&H in New York had them. Plus free expedited FedEx two day shipping from New York to me in the Pacific Northwest!
