Q: 6. When buying a refurbished speed editor, does this come with the software?

A: No, It does not include Resolve Studio. The following model does come with the DaVinci Resolve Studio License. Q: 7. Will this work with earlier Davinci versions like 16?

Q: 8. Does it work with the Editing page or only cut page?

Q: 9. Any of these come with the studio version software of da Vinci resolve?

A: Yes, both versions of the Speed Editor we currently have for sale include the studio version software, as either a dongle or a code - Blackmagic Design DaVinci Resolve Studio with Speed Editor Dongle (B&H # BLDRDONSEBUK MFR # DV/RESSTUD/DONGLE/SE/BUN) and Blackmagic Design DaVinci Resolve Studio with Speed Editor Activation Card (B&H # BLDRSEBUNK MFR # DV/RESSTUD/SE/BUN). Used Speed Editors purchased from us would not include the software.

Q: 10. can the unit be turned off to save battery?

A: The Speed Editor turns off when Resolve is closed. Hitting a key will wake it up.

Without the Speed Editor the Cut Page is a little redundant. But with the Speed Editor it comes into it's own. Great for putting together a first edit, and helpful on and off afterwards. Some things just need to be done on the Edit Page, so go there when needed.

I liked the full editor keyboard but it was too big. Plus it didn't make much sense with the cost. This panel is perfect as it has most of the great figures from the full keyboard in a portable size.

I was surprised to discover how functional the Speed Editor is in the Edit page, since it is billed as a keyboard for the Cut page. I don't use the Cut page, but since the SE was offered free with purchase of a DaVinci Resolve Studio license, I bought the license. In the Edit page, I use the jog/shuttle wheel and all the keys except the live edit/camera keys. (I haven't used the trim/slip keys, so I can't be sure they work in the Edit page.) The jog wheel greatly speeds up the editing process for me. The smart insert/append/ripl o/wr keys, the audio level process, the cut/dis/smth cut keys are great. I use the computer keyboard shortcuts and the Speed Editor keyboard together, and have greatly reduced use of the mouse. I find taking my hand away from the keyboards to use the mouse very inefficient. Of course everyone edits a bit differently, but for me the Speed Editor has indeed sped up my editing process, even outside the Cut page.

I work as a professional Colorist at a premier facility and I have finally moved up to the new panel... What a relief to have a panel specifically designed for the task! The angle of the screens is perfect and ability to customize the button lights really makes this control surface blend right in to the post production work flow environment. I wish the keyboard had some illumination though because I like to use keyboard shortcuts often and in the low light environment it's just a little dim. Hook up was a breeze and my mac pro recognized it immediately.. Good Job Black Magic

Blackmagic has edited all irrelevant keys out of a standard keyboard and created a small panel containing only relevant keys with their functions clearly labeled. Some keys have multiple functions if you press them twice quickly.

As a result of this simplification, some things I used to find confusing (I'm a newbie), and mouse moves that were difficult have literally been eliminated. As a result, my level of understanding and ability have increased a lot in the weeks since it arrived.

The quality of the Speed Editor's construction is admirable in an era of disposability. The control wheel turns with silky smoothness, and the knurling on the wheel itself is pleasing to the touch.

The Speed Editor turns the Resolve Cut Page into a powerhouse environment for those of us wanting to create short-form video, and it has decent functionality on the Edit page -- which no doubt will increase as software updates continue.

A tool of this quality included in the cost of upgrading from the free version to the Studio version of Davinci Resolve is an amazing value. Most highly recommended!

This little keyboard is an amazing addition to Resolve and definitely speeds up the editing process in the cut page. It is very well integrated with the software and offers a lot more shortcuts than one would expect considering the size.

The best part is that it is a Bluetooth keyboard so no need to have an other cable cluttering your desk.

So, I first learned to edit on a linear tape to tape editor as a kid in the 90s and non-linear editing via software has had huge advantages but miss oddly the ease of a dedicated key/keyboard layout. This is certainly the closest to old school. I got mine in addition to a studio 17 license but give that a Mac keyboard is $150 and a Loupedeck is $550+ even on its own if you use Resolve regularly is well worth it - bundled? duhhh. A great reason to upgrade. Only downside is, of course, it's dedicated to Resolve, but a nice addition to ones kit.

This device makes the DaVinci Resolve cut page easier and faster to use (once your fingers learn the patterns, of course) To understand the plus and minus side of that you need to understand a bit of how Resolve is structured. The cut page is intended for fast editing, largely oriented around blog or quick edits. This device works great for that. The more intense formal editing done on a a major motion picture may not find either this device or the cut page it supports to be very interesting. Some buttons on the speed editor match functions on the edit page, and these work, of course. But a serious editor will be happier with the (MUCH more expensive) other control tablets available from Black Magic. On the other hand, if you move quickly and get this Speed Editor for free as part of licensing DaVinci Resolve you are a BIG winner if you are in the right user group.

I've used keyboard shortcuts and the mouse as much as I could while editing. As a news editor, I sometimes lose focus trying to remember what shortcut does what.

I know that with time the shortcuts will become second nature, however, I want to spend more time on the creative aspects of editing for the time being. If you have a better suggestion, please let me know.

This keyboard has really helped me improve the speed and quality of my edits. I don't mind using the Cut Page on DR, in fact since my projects are small, I feel more productive.
