Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. I own both a 7D Mk II and a 5D Mk III. Can this bracket be used on the 5D Mk III? Since the camera exteriors are very similar it seems possible.

A: This is not compatible with the 5DIII, it is made specifically for the 7DII.

Q: 2. would this work for a Canon 6D?

A: No, this was designed for use with the Canon EOS 7D Mark II

Q: 3. Do you happen to know whether its weather-sealed? Especially around the insert section of battery compartment? Thanks

A: This product is not weather sealed.

Q: 4. Will the L bracket fit with battery grip on the 7d Mark II ?

A: Unfortunately no, it will not fit the 7D Mark II grip and currently no one makes an L bracket that will fit the grip.

Q: 5. I am making an assumption here, but the Canon grip has a magnesium alloy body, the Vello cost is a quarter the price of Canon's, is it all plastic?

A: Yes, the Vello grip is polycarbonate.

Q: 6. Is there a way to adapt a sling-style strap that attaches to the tripod mount?

A: I don't see how that is possible. I have a black rapid strap I'm unable to use with the bracket also attached to the camera body. However, I've learned that BOSStrap has a similar strap that attaches to one of the body lugs, rather than the tripod socket. BOSStrap also offers a simple adapter to attach to a tripod strap to convert it to a lug mounted strap.

Q: 7. Does the grip with AA batteries change the shutter rates? (frames per second)

A: I never use AA batteries

Q: 8. Can the batteries be changed while the camera is operating with the intervelometer for extended shooting (star trails)?

A: No the camera will need to be turned off when the batteries are removed. Once you begin sliding the batteries out the camera will loose power. With 2 fully charged batteries this should give you about 5 hours of open shutter time. This grip is excellent. I have the same brand for my 5D MKIII and never had an issue. Perhaps you should invest in an A/C power adapter if you'll be shooting in an area where you can plug in.At normal temperatures, here's a rough idea of how long a fully-charged Canon-brand battery can operate when you're in Bulb mode (total shutter open time, whether for one single long exposure, or many shorter ones):EOS Rebel series: approx. 22.5 total hoursEOS 60D: approx. 6 hoursEOS 7D: approx. 2.5 hoursEOS 5D Mark III: approx. 4 hoursEOS-1D X: approx. 3 hours 45 Source: learnusacanon B&H doesn't allow links to other sites but you see where it is.

Q: 9. Can you attach the Peak Design strap fastener to the L bracket? I use a Peak Design hand strap, so I need a point of contact on the bottom of the camera in addition to the usual strap attachment. Thanks!

A: Yes you can attach a Peak Design hand strap to a camera with the Sunwayfoto PCL-7DIIR L bracket. Look at the photo on the B&H product page... flat part that fasten to the bottom of the camera... on the right. See the opening? It's as clear as day! Not sure if it's by design or accident, but the Sunwayfoto engineers provide a strap opening right there on the right side of the L bracket. Hence, one end of the hand strap fastens to the normal camera strap anchor on top of the camera... the other end of the hand strap fastens to the bar opening of the L bracket. Eazy peezy. Enjoy! Cheers!

Q: 10. Does it have the focus point joy-stick and lever?

A: It also has the lever, but the lever is offset from the joystick, so is slightly different from the camera in look and location, but has the same function.

One for my Canon 5D3 and one for my 7D2. Good price and quality.

This product worked superb on my Canon 7dii this weekend photographing waterfalls. I demand highest quality for photo accessories but there comes a point where the two name brands charge an unfair premium price for a piece of metal. The Sunwayfoto bracket offers totally perfect quality at a fair price. The only unknown for me would be the finish durability over time.

I have been a regular purchaser of RRS products. But I don't like the two-part design or price of RRS' L-bracket for the 7DII. This Sunway product is an excellent one-part design and it fits the 7DII perfectly. The attachment screw slides in a slot, allowing the bracket's distance from the electrical connections on the side to be adjusted. The black anodized surface is tough, scratch resistant, and seems identical to RRS' anodization. Plus Sunway includes safety screws on the longer base side of the bracket. I chose not to use these because it makes the camera and bracket unable to sit level, but I like having the option for the safety screws. I recommend this L-bracket highly.

I heard about the L bracket at a recent photo workshop. I had just lost the release plate which attached my camera to the tri-pod's ballhead. It was a good opportunity to find out why I had to keep tightening the plate after realizing it was shifting and I was loosing shots. This is far better to move the camera from vertical to horizontal, etc, on the tri-pod.
