I use the 1dxii for wildlife photography, primarily birds in flight. Superb subject acquiring on a variety of backgrounds. I'm stoked!

I have used the new 1D X Mk II for 3 events so far, all sporting events. One indoor, two outdoor. I had a Canon 1D Mk IV and a 7D Mk II before I got this one (and still have them). I did not expect to see so much difference between the 1D Mk IV and the 1D X Mk II, this camera is noticeably faster! Focus, shutter release, frame rate, it is just downright FAST. Which I am loving. The high ISO performance is also an improvement over both the 1D Mk IV and the 7D Mk II. I shot the indoor sporting event at ISO 16,000. Something I would not have done previously. Yes, there was some noise, but not at all an objectionable amount. Either fine to leave in, or easily removed with a noise removal program. I will have no fear pushing the ISO higher if I need it. I also like the new features in the viewfinder, like displaying the WB and metering modes among others. The built in electronic levels are also a nice bonus for me. Finally, the buttons and menus are an improvement over the 1D Mk IV. Not a huge improvement, but a definite improvement. Overall I would highly recommend this camera. I was not expecting to see so much of an improvement over my 1D Mk IV, but I really do notice a difference.

I tried out the Tamron and Sigma lenses and by far the Canon version has the best speed of focus and sharpest image. Great lenses for portrait and to complement my Canon 70 - 200 f2.8 for indoor sports

I moved to the 1DX II a few days ago. So far it is a great camera. As with any system, there are issues. The menu system is a little cumbersome (a little googling required). I totally understand the 20mp sensor, but it is not much resolution to play with. Of course, coming from medium format and the A7R II what can you expect? It does exactly what it's meant to do...focus lightning fast and shoot 14fps. That it does amazingly well. It's super huge! Again, I know it has components, battery, etc...but it is one of the biggest cameras I've ever used. Heavy too. All that said, it is an amazing shooter. Fast, customizable, great battery life, beautiful images (with a really slight crop) etc. I'd buy it again. It's a niche product. I need the frame rate and the focusing system so I plunged into it.

I had a color issue with the monitor that made it unusable. The port keys customer support was quick to respond, I assumed it was a hardware defect on the HDMI port but it ended up being a software phantom. They helped me fix it quickly and were obviously willing to warranty service the monitor if necessary. 10/10. Beyond this it is VERY bright, cutting through sunlight no problem. Also the wireless connect with my FX3 is super helpful. The form factor is also really nice having fairly small bezels and a really compact aluminum frame that does a good job of dissipating heat. Side note it feels really premium. No plastic on this bad boy other than the buttons which are very clicky and convenient. I highly recommend… especially given the company actually cares about their customers. I actually just bought their $250 7” monitor as a backup and it’s also good. Definitely punched above it’s price point.

I would recommend this for anyone who is entry-mid level in the production world. Solo shooters and any set that doesn't have a DIT trying to establish a consistent color pipeline, more on that below.

I pair the BM5 and BM7 with my OG Komodo and it works great. Wireless connection is easy and works flawlessly on both BM5 and BM7. The plastic hardshell case is the exact same for both monitors, and the compromise was taking the foam out of the casing, which I don't love... But, I'm not too worried about it.

It would be great if PortKeys made some tutorials on how to ensure that the monitor is calibrated, as I'm never 100% confident that my monitor is showing the most accurate rendition of what the sensor is getting... And the calibration tools are pretty confusing.

I use my cameras primarily for nature/wildlife and for sports photos, particularly equestrian competitions. I bought the EOS 1D X Mark II to supplement my existing 1D X, looking for improvements in autofocus, overall IQ in tough conditions. I was also looking forward to a modest increase in frames-per-second for action sequences. I'm pleased to say that the 1D Mark II comes through in all of these areas. It is a step up from the already-excellent 1D X. I am also pleased that the control layout is nearly identical to the former model so I have not had to retrain my fingers.

Seems like 2008 was just a couple of years when I received my 5Dii. At the time I was amazed at how far things had come since my 20d. The 1D X Mark II has amazed me even more than the gap from the 20d to the 5Dii. I took Wedding photographs at the reception using ISO 12,800 (no flash), F4.0, shutter varied between 1/60th and greater, and the noise was low and uniform enough that Lightroom enabled me to make really nice prints on 17x22 sheets. Plus the ability to take photos at 14 - 16 fps means I don't have to be as concerned with the most important shots during a Wedding when inevitably someone will be closing their eyes for a brief second of the moment you are trying to capture. I also have been holding out for GPS built into the camera body. While the satellite acquisition time is a little longer (2 - 4 minutes it seems) than I care for, once it has located enough satellites it does hold the position very well. As for battery life, I haven't pushed the battery hard enough, but have seen other reviews where people are claiming to get 4000 or more shots with no GPS, no liveview, and no movie making. I do have a second battery just in case, but have yet to have a critical need for it. The only 4K/60fps video I have tried was at the max ISO of 12,800 in a very dark wedding dance party. The reality is that it was too dark to do video and I abandoned trying to capture the party via video. Although I did want to see if the CFast card got as hot as I had read, and while it wasn't burning my fingers, it was pretty hot. Having just taking photos recently in Kiev, I have to say being able to not have to worry about getting a shot or having to use a flash to get a shot has been tremendously freeing, and a reduced annoyance to those travelling with me. So far I have no regrets with buying this camera body.
