Related Questions and Answers
Q: 1. What are the reasons for choosing one of the frequency ranges (470-558 or 558-608) over the other?
A: It also depends where you will be using the device. You can use sites like https://en-us.sennheiser.com/sifa to find which frequency bands in your target area are free or busy. This will narrow it down. If you travel abroad, certain frequencies may be banned or license only. Worth doing a little research into what you need where you are going.
Q: 2. Headphone jack?
A: This is the 512P G4, yes, has a headphone jack to monitor at the receiver.
Q: 3. Can 1 TX connect to 2 RX simultaneously? Spec say SK500 G4 transmitter can transmit to unlimited number of EW series receivers.
A: Yes, you can connect one Sennheiser SK 500 G4 Wireless Bodypack Transmitter to multiple Sennheiser EK 500 G4 Pro Wireless Camera-Mount Receivers.
Q: 4. Can it be mixed with ew100 g4 and g3?
A: All of the current 100 and 500 Sennheiser Evolution series wireless is compatible, including older generation G2 and G3 systems.
Q: 5. What type of lavalier is it compatible with? sennheiser or sony?
A: The Saramonic UwMic9S Mini KIT2 Compact 2-Person Camera-Mount Wireless Omni Lavalier Microphone System is compatible with Sennheiser-style lavaliers. This is generally the case, as the vast majority of manufacturers treat Sennheiser's wiring scheme as the default for 3.5mm microphones.
Q: 6. What are the biggest differences between this and the AVX system with the MKE2?
A: The biggest difference is that this system is UHF and the AVX system is digital. The Sennheiser ew 512P G4 system features a very wide band of UHF frequencies- up to 88 MHz bandwidth with 3250 selectable frequencies; high RF output power; and a range of over 300 feet. The AVX systems feature superior audio quality; a unique receiver configuration with an XLR connection; easy set up; and less chance of interference from TV broadcasts.
Q: 7. The system comes with a 'Fur Windscreen'. Is that the foam type that cannot be removed or is it an separate fur/fuzzy windscreen that can be attached? Finally, is an aftermarket fur windscreen needed for outdoor usage? If so, what would be a recommendation? Thank you!
A: Hi, The fur windscreen included is removable and it is sufficient for outdoor use. I hope this is helpful, thank you for shopping at B&H!
Q: 8. Purchasing two sets of this, would it be smart to buy one of each frequency range? Will both be good in NYC?
A: You can definitely use two of the Sennheiser EW 512P G4 Camera-Mount Wireless Omni Lavalier Microphone Systems that operate on the same frequency band in New York City. The system has 3,520 auto-scan frequencies for the system to select from to transmit audio and up to 32 systems can be used simultaneously on the same band.
Q: 9. Can you use both the microphones at the same time (body pack and handheld)?
A: No, you cannot use both microphones (the bodypack and handheld) at the same time because the Shure SLXD4 receiver that comes with the Shure SLXD124/85 Digital Wireless Combo Microphone System (G58: 470 to 514 MHz) is single channel.
Q: 10. What is the difference from the EW 512P to the EW 100? - In other words, why is there such a price difference?
A: The ew 512P system has a wide 88 MHz bandwidth with 3520 frequencies and an adjustable RF output level of 10, 30 or 50 mW. Depending on your location, you can operate up to 32 wireless systems simultaneously. The ew 100 has a 42 MHz bandwidth with 1680 frequencies and a fixed RF output level of 30 mW. You can use up to 12 ew 100 systems at the same time depending on the environment. The ew 512P includes the MKE 2 lavalier which is a more professional mic than the ME 2-II (or ME 4) which is included with the ew 100 system. Additionally, the ew 512P has a headphone jack on the receiver but the ew 100 does not have a headphone jack. The ew 100 system also includes a plug-on transmitter (SKP 100) for use with dynamic mics and mics that do not require phantom power. If you do want to add on a similar plug-on transmitter for the ew 512 or use the ew 500 system, the SKP 500 does supply +48V phantom power.
