Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Is this material compatible for printing on an HP Latex 335?

A: This can be used with a Latex 335.

Q: 2. What is the expiration date?

A: The expiration is constantly changing from week to week and month to month. This is all fresh dated film but if you want a specific expiry date at any given time, please call in and ask a representative-800-947-9950.

Q: 3. Hello will this work on my nikon f100?

A: Yes it is compatible with any 35mm film camera.

Q: 4. is negative film the same as slide film?

A: No. Negative film has an orange base and produces a negative image (highlights are dark, shadows are light). It requires scanning and conversion from a negative to a positive image as well as accounting for the orange base.Slide film, on the other hand, produces a positive image on the film and can be scanned much easier as such (the image does not need to be inverted). +Compared to slide film, negative film has more latitude, meaning that it is more flexible and is less likely to give empty shadows or highlights. It also has more dynamic range than slide film.-Conversely, negative film is also lower contrast than slide film, lower saturation, has more grain, and is less sharp.Ektar 100, in particular, is less flexible than the Kodak Portra family of negative films (160/400). It behaves more like slide film than negative film in that it is higher contrast, less flexible, sharper, and more saturated. It is still, however, a negative film. For a film with more latitude (i.e. easier to use), stick to Portra which will also have better skin tones.

Q: 5. Compatible with Nikon N75?

A: You can use the Kodak 135-36 35mm Ektar 100 Color Negative Film in the Nikon N75, yes.

Q: 6. Where can I get the film developed without paying an arm and a leg?

A: Please visit our film development for your processing needs.

Q: 7. is there a reciprocity factor with this film due to long exposures?

A: I haven't noticed anything significant out to 30 seconds. I use it a lot for city night photography where exposures are around 4-16 seconds with great results. I'm not doing anything too technical though.

Q: 8. Does the 5 rolls come in the Kodak box as illustrated on the website?

A: Yes, this is a 5 pack of the Kodak Pro Image 100 Color Negative Film.

Q: 9. Does this film need to be refrigerated for long term storage like was necessary with the old Vericolor?

A: The following information is listed by Kodak for storing Kodak Ektar film: Store unexposed film at 21°C (70°F) or lower in the original sealed package. For extended periods, store film at 13°C (55°F) to preserve consistency. To avoid moisture condensation on film that has been refrigerated, allow the film to warm up to room temperature before opening the package.

Q: 10. which is the expiration date?

A: B&H buys and sells film in bulk. In general we regularly maintain fresh film stock. All of our film is at least 6 months from expiration (typically much longer). Anytime film stock is less than 6 months from expiration we sell it in a separate section and label it as short-dated film and also price it with a slight discount (again due to the volumes we sell this rarely occurs). Unfortunately we do not have access to our inventory to hand inspect the expiration date of any of our films prior to purchase.

I have been shooting film (and some slide) since the mid 1970's. Even though I have a Pentax K5 digital, I still shoot a lot of film. The reason is; I know what I can do with it for what I shoot. Landscapes, sunrise/sunsets, and architecture come out great. My film camera is all manual and the Ektar 100 is very close to what Kodak use to produce; Portra 160VC. Very similar color saturation for sunsets. You can over expose this film & get great sunset/sunrise colors or good snow shots. Since I cannot figure out the manual settings on my K5, & that I am very familiar with the film camera, I will continue to use the Ektar 100.

Got the film very quickly! I've always loved using Ektar, but where I live it is hard to find. Am currently using the roll right now! #sweepstakes

This film is unreal and blows away digital period. I used this film with Nikon and Leica cameras and the results were stunning.

I don't always shoot color, but when I decide to use color, most often for outdoor portraits, or urban setting with varying hues, I choose Ektar 100. The colors are vibrant and beautiful and saturated to a clean degree, never too much as digital saturation can give you. Highly recommend for anyone looking for clean vibrancy to capture beautiful skin tones and natural color contrasts.

These days its hard to get film with professional quality and low ASA. this provides intense colors, which I need. I shoot through a microscope and years ago used kodachrome 25 and 64. This comes the closest in color saturation to those films.

I remember the old Ektar 25 more than a decade ago. But that got swept away with all my old film stuff more than a decade ago when I switched to all digital. Everything changed a few months ago and I purchased a Leica MP and decided to renew my love affair with film and the fully manual process. What a wonderful decision!

I first tried the new Ektar 100 in Kauai and I'd forgotten that I was meant to be metering for the shadows. Lots of film emulsions have a very wide exposure latitude but this film really doesn't. I shot at box speed but many of those first shots in the early mornings or in shade really came back looking awful: washed out, no color or contrast and a weird blue hue over everything. I'd seen in other reviews that the film really likes light so I got a couple more rolls and shot them in Sayulita, Mexico. What an incredible film! This time I shot at box speed but metered for shadows and made sure there was enough exposure. When that happens, the results are magic.

Others have also suggested the film isn't good for portraits, that white skin goes too pink or red. But I didn't find that to be true. This portrait below was on a very pale white young lady and the results were so extraordinary. Super saturated but believable color with normal skin tones.

This isn't the most forgiving film but if you want that tight grained, saturated and contrasty look, you'll fall in love with the rendering and signature of this film. Buy a few rolls and see what you think!
