The STRAUSS ELEKTROAKUSTIK SE-NF-3 Nearfiled Monitor is a passive speaker that is meant to be used in high-end mixing and critical-listening applications. This is a nearfield monitor, offering a 1" soft-dome tweeter with a neodymium magnet. For the low and midrange frequency, the speaker offers a 5" woofer with a coated paper cone and a ferrite magnet circuit.

All told, this monitor will net a frequency response of 38 Hz to 26 kHz (-6 dB) when paired with a suitable amplifier to power the speaker. It is designed to handle 60W RMS of power. You'll find binding posts on the back of the unit to connect to an amplifier (separately available).

With a dispersion of 100 x 60° (horizontal x vertical), the monitor is quite suited for your studio environment, as it can address the sweetspot and surrounding areas more than adequately. The monitor is solidly constructed at 22 lb.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Will this eliminate audio humm/buzz from the computer?

A: No it will not.

Q: 2. Would this work with a Wacom Cintiq 16? Is it sturdy?

A: No, the Wacom Cintiq 16 does not have a VESA mounting pattern and would not be compatible with the Mount-It! Single Monitor Desk Mount (B&H # MOMI4761). The Wacom Cintiq 16 is compatible with the Wacom Adjustable Stand for Cintiq 16 (B&H # WAACK620K).

Q: 3. Does the output go out simultaneously on the TRS and XLR connections?

A: The question is puzzling to me because I only know of 1 stereo out. It is an XLR connection not TRS. You can use cables that connect XLR to this controller and then TRS to a monitor or other amp if you need. But there are not 2 simultaneous outs. The in is XLR as well. Additionally, I have used this device between my signal out and the monitors for about a month and I like the solid stateness and the smooth glide of the volume nob. Ability to just mute the monitors is nice too. Especially nice if those features need to be isolated from your main controlling device. Hope that helps.

Q: 4. Can I just plug it in to my m audio 3 way active speakers and control the volume without a mixer?

A: You can however as it is a passive volume knob you will not have true reference grade monitoring. The shifting impedance will effect the frequency response and stereo image as you turn the volume up and down..... so for editing it is very convenient but for mix critical listening I would go with something that has an active volume control

Q: 5. Where can I find just the red rubber grip washer attached to this product please?

A: Either contact the maker, or fashion one out of rubber, cutting to exact size, to get a tight grip.

Q: 6. Made In .... GERMANY ?

A: According to the information we have, our current inventory's Country of Origin is Germany. Please be aware this can change over the product's production life without notice.

Q: 7. It has 1x XLR 3-Pin Balanced Input. Is it for balanced AES/EBU cable with XLR connector, or XLR audio cable?

A: The Dynaudio Acoustics LYD 48 3-Way Nearfield Speaker Monitor (Left, Black) has a balanced XLR input for analog audio signal. It should not be used to connect digital audio signal from AES/EBU cable.

Q: 8. Can you plug good studio headphones into the stereo output on the back and toggle between the headphones and Nearfield monitors?

A: Yes, you can connect studio headphones and nearfield monitors and toggle between them. Depending on the headphones, you may want to use them with a headphone amplifier to provide more gain.

Q: 9. Can this prevent speaker pop when shutting off console?

A: Yes, leslie h is correct. Using the mute botton or turing the knob to Zero will help prevent popping for you.

Q: 10. Is this suitable for live sound speakers control as well ?

A: You can use it for any passive speakers, meaning that you can not pass power through the controller.
