The star feature of the YC Onion Pineta monopod is the single-step lever that allows for the monopod to extend, adjust, lock and unlock seamlessly. You press the safety disengage button and flip the lever up essentially in one movement, set the monopod to where you want it, and then push the lever back down. You're set!

It's a similar concept made popular by Sachtler Flowtech tripods. But I think it's so much more impactful when you're using a monopod for one simple reason: you don't have to bend down or crouch to extend the 3 sections twice (once to unlock, and then again to lock in place).

This makes the monopod a truly nimble support solution for run and gun filmmaking. I love combining run and gun with fixed-off shots. Mixing handheld footage with fixed shots give you a greater range of cinematic expression and this monopod accelerates that type of filmmaking.

The only weakness of this monopod is the ballhead/knob of the tripod feet. First of all, I don't like knobs because they don't visually tell you how locked off they are. Second, you have to bend down to twist it. Third, the knob is rather small and so you have to use quite a bit of effort to make sure it is tight.

Companies like iFootage are creating tripod feet with levers that engage the lock. There's pros and cons to this design. For example, the lever lock tripod feet only locks in the 90 degree center position. You can't lock it in any other position. I've tried it and it's not a fully developed solution yet.

I prefer the ability to tighten down the monopod slightly off center to either balance against the terrain or balance the center weight of the gravity.

Anyways, the good news is that the feet are modular and I am hoping YC Onion releases a true pedal/lever system that removes the need to ever bend down for adjusting the angle of the monopod.
