The USB port on your car stereo is designed to read digital data stored on a thumb drive. MP3 files, wav files, etc. are binary code that can be read by the D/A converter in your car stereo. Your MP3 player's headphone jack simply outputs analog audio that can be listened to through a transducer like headphones or earbuds. B&H Photo does sell a piece of equipment that is designed to do what you're asking. It is B&H part # SCFMTD3R and sells for $22.99.

A: The answer to your question is a resounding yes. It is fully compatible w/ OSX, I have used it for some time on multiple versions of OSX. I can not however tell you definitively if OSX 10.10 will be an issue. But from my experience w/ this device I highly doubt there will be an issue.Runs great, the only issue I have w/ this device is optical input outputs, not inherently being routable. You may use a 3rd party software i.e. Audio Hijack to accomplish this. Hope this gives you peace of mind. I would highly recommend this device.

A: The StarTech 7.1 USB Audio Adapter External Sound Card B&H # STICUSBAUD7D only works when plugged in to a computer. It does not work standalone.

I use the adaptor on a laptop with only 1 audio port for headphones. It has no input for a microphone. The sound is very clear; both speaking and listening. The drivers installed automatically and it was up and running in a few minutes. 5

Bought is audio adapter because my new laptop had only one jack for handling audio input and output. I had read many complaints about the lack of separate input and output. This adapter works without problems. Definitely would recommend if you find there are problems using a single jack for input and output. 5
