Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. RE: WR-R11b receiver. Is there an indicator light that confirms the unit was activated?

A: Yes, the WR-R11b has two LED indicator lights that signify an established connection as well as triggering. The top LED flashes red during triggering and/or AF activation and the bottom light flashes a longer green pulse when a photograph is fired (as opposed to a continuous short green pulse every few seconds that signifies the unit is connected to the WR-T10).

Q: 2. Both the WR-R11b and WR-R11a can trigger the SB5000 flash from Z6, Z6II, Z7, Z7II per NIKONUSA website. So what is the difference between them?

A: The Nikon WR-R11a is designed for use with cameras equipped with a 10-pin terminal (except some older DSLR models like the D100, D1, D1H, D1X, D200. The WR-R11a is not compatible for use with the Nikon Z6, Z6 II, Z7, or Z7 II Mirrorless Digital Cameras as they do not use the 10-pin remote terminal. The WR-R11b is compatible with cameras equipped with an accessory terminal (cannot be used with the D90, COOLPIX A, P7800, P7700, P1000, and P950). You would need the WR-R11b for use with the Nikon Z6, Z6 II, Z7, or Z7 II Mirrorless Digital Cameras.

Q: 3. I realize I need the WR-T 10 and WR-R11b for use with my Z 7 ii. But will it also trigger the SB 5000 speed flash?

A: Yes, the Nikon WR-R11b/WR-T10 Remote Controller Set would be compatible for use to wirelessly trigger an off-camera Nikon SB-5000 Speedlight Flash when used with a compatible camera.

Q: 4. Is there a cheaper work around 3rd party wireless remote trigger that does NOT occupy the hot shoe? Going from a sub-$20 remote (ML-L3) to a sub-$300 set is a hard pill to swallow....for essentially the same functionality.

A: As an alternative to this product, see others such as the Vello Shutterboss III or the Vello Freewave Plus. They use a cable to relay communication, and the hot shoe is simply the most convenient place to place the receiver. They do not need the hot shoe to function. You could leave it hanging via the cable if you really needed to, but that would be a little risky. Shutterboss III (Nikon): https://bhpho.to/37WbxdA Freewave Plus (Nikon): https://bhpho.to/2NGxzdw

Q: 5. Will this work with a Nikon 780

A: Yes Nikon WR-R11b/WR-T10 Remote Controller Set is compatible with the Nikon D780.

Q: 6. Is the WR-R11b compatible with WR-A10 adapter, so I can use it with either Z cameras or DSLR cameras with 10 pin port?

A: No, the Nikon WR-R11b is not compatible for use with the Nikon WR-A10. The WR-R11b can be triggered by a WR-T10 Wireless Remote Controller (transmitter), and a WR-1 Wireless Remote Controller.

Q: 7. When using the WR-R-11b to trigger the SB-5000, do you have to use channel 3 to trigger other non-RF Nikon speedlights in group?

A: No, when using the following unit in order to trigger off third party unit they must be put in slave mode also keep in mind that the following unit can trigger off 64 Transceiver Units. And the following unit works only with the following Nikon models D4 (D4S, D810, D800, D800E, D750, D610, D600, D5500, D5300, D5200, D7200, D7100, D5 and D500).

Q: 8. Will this remote shutter auto focus with back button focus set on?

A: I contacted Nikon USA concerning your inquiry. According to Nikon, they state the remote's shutter button should trip the shutter regardless of what the camera is set to in regards to shutter or back button. As such, yes, it should work for your usage needs when the camera is set to back button autofocus.

Q: 9. Will this still connect to the camera with an L-bracket installed on the Nikon z8?

A: An L-bracket will not fit the Nikon Z8 Mirrorless Camera with the attached Nikon WR-R11b Remote Controller.

Q: 10. Can the WR-R11a be triggered by a Nikon Z8 in synchronized release mode? I want to release my D750 at the same time as my Z8.

A: Yes, the Nikon WR-R11a Remote Controller can trigger the Nikon Z8 Mirrorless Camera while the Nikon WR-R11b Remote Controller triggers the Nikon D750 DSLR Camera simultaneously by paring them on the same channel and pin number.
