Designed for professionals, photographers, and hobbyists, this blue 935 Wheeled Hard Case from Nanuk has a 28.5L capacity to protect and store your delicate items including laptops, tablets, cameras and lenses, electronics, drones, sample kits, tools, handguns with spare magazines and hearing protection, medical equipment and first aid supplies, and equipment of all sorts.  The case is made from lightweight, crush, dust, and waterproof NK-7 polypropylene resin. It has a foam insert for fast and easy customized protection for your specific gear, and includes a convoluted egg crate foam lid insert plus a solid base layer for the bottom. Carry the case with the oversized top handle or use the retractable handle to pull it behind you on its low-profile wheels. The handle has two stop positions to accommodate users of different sizes with handle heights from ground of 32" at the low setting and 38" at the high setting.

The PowerClaw latches use compressive force to keep the case securely closed until you open it. Integrated slide locks prevent the case from opening during transport or if dropped. A: You are correct the, the 1510 should fit. The 1535 will not. But note these are made for specific cases. So, they will not fit perfect in the Nanuk 935 case.

A: One method can be better for particular contents than the other based on what the contents are. Generally, both methods are protective in the same way if said contents fit correctly.

A: While it depends on the size of the 17" laptop (gaming laptops for instance are significantly thicker and wider), it is neither recommended nor safe to store a laptop behind the lid organizer. More than likely, it will prevent the lid and/or lid organizer from sitting flush and closing as the manufacturer intended.
