Q: 1. Where is this lens made?
A: The Zeiss Milvus 85mm f/1.4 ZE is made in Japan.
Q: 2. Will this drive fit & work in a Lenovo T540p?
A: The Corsair 1TB MP600 MICRO NVMe PCIe 4.0 M.2 Internal SSD is not compatible with the Lenovo ThinkPad T540p, which accepts a 2.5" SATA drive.
Q: 3. Can you confirm if this model has hard stop focus ring at infinity like other Zeiss models or does the focus ring move past infinity?
A: The Zeiss Otus 1.4/28 focuses beyond infinity, as does the other Otus lenses. The special glass types used in the construction of the lens are sensitive to thermal expansion, so a hard stop would cause infinity problems at high temperatures.
Q: 4. Any body out there has used it with a Nikon Z7 ?
A: This lens would work very well when attached to the Z7 via the FTZ adapter.
Q: 5. Will the de-clicked iris work well with the video on my d780, or does it still need to be locked on like f16 for the Nikon CPU not to Fritz out. If it works well I will probably grab this and an 85 for my film making
A: The aperture of the ZEISS Milvus 35mm f/1.4 ZF.2 Lens for Nikon F has a de-click feature specifically for filmmaking applications. To use the manual aperture on the lens, you will need to set this in the camera menu (go to F5 customize command dials, aperture setting and change from sub-command dial to aperture ring).
Q: 6. Hello,I am concerned about how a person determines if a subject is in focus or not. Will my focusing green dot on my Nikon D610 work with this lens? Do I have to look at the image and determine focus by the picture quality. I have tried magnifying eyepieces and my eyesight will not allow me to use them. Thanks in advance.Bill
A: When the lens is stopped down the dot indicating that focus is achieved works fine. When working at a shallow depth of field, live view or a zacuto z pro finder helps with focus. If using live view a helpful hint I found on the internet is to program the center button of the multiselector (option f2 in the custom settings on a D-810 so that live view will immediately go to zoom mode when this button is pushed when you're in live view. This button can also be programed to zoom during playback to quickly check focus. You can program it for 50%, 100%, or200% magnification and it zooms centered on the site of your focus point. On a sunny day a hoodman is very useful. It's much smaller than a zacuto and can be quickly placed over the review screen to check exposure or focus in the sun when you can't see the liveview screen well. If relieing on the in camera focus dot for focusing with a narrow depth of field, there is quite a distance that the lens focus ring can be moved and yet still indicate that the camera thinks you are in focus. I did some test shots and I found that sometimes even though I thought I turned the focus ring until it was about in the center of where focus was indicated when coming into and out of focus as the ring was turned, the picture sometimes was still slightly out of focus. I found that if I started focusing in front of my desired site and turned the focus ring until the camera just indicated in focus I often achieved good focus, but when I began focusing behind the subject and turned the focus ring until the camera indicated in focus then the image was always fuzzy. This also happens with my other camera, a D700.
Q: 7. How does the Milvus version of this 21mm lens compare to the older Distagon version?
A: The Milvus 2.8/21 shares the same optical design as the 'Classic' Distagon T* 2.8/21 ZF.2, but is superior in a number of other ways. The anti-reflective coating is improved, which provides better control of flare and subsequently improves contrast and color saturation. The barrel is now weather sealed against moisture and dust, while the aperture on the ZF.2 series can be de-clicked for continuous control of the aperture.
Q: 8. What filter size does this lens use?
A: This lens uses 67mm threaded filters.
Q: 9. Does this work with the BLCMCHS3WPSU ?
A: Yes, this works with the new converters.
Q: 10. Hello, Can I use the aperture ring on this lens with the Nikon D850?
A: Nikon states on page 20 when using a CPU lens equipped with an aperture ring, lock the aperture at the minimum setting (highest F-number). The ZEISS Milvus 15mm f/2.8 ZF.2 Lens for Nikon F, B&H # ZE1528MZF2, is a CPU lens and is designed to adjust the camera's aperture by rotating the command dial on the camera body. If you wish to use the aperture ring, you would have to register the lens with your camera as a Non-CPU lens as indicated on page 218-219 in the Nikon D850 DSLR Camera's instruction manual. As indicated, go to [Setup Menu] [Non-CPU Lens Data], then select a lens number, enter the lens' focal length and set the minimum aperture, the press [OK] to save the settings to see if that will allow you to use the aperture ring.
