The Bering Optics PVS-14BE Elite Night Vision Monocular & Headgear Kit offers a versatile, compact, and rugged night vision device that can be used handheld, mounted to a helmet or firearms, or worn with the included headgear. It features a 3rd-generation green intensifier tube with an autogated power supply. Autogating greatly improves sensitivity in low light and variable lighting conditions, protecting against bright light burnout and extending the life of the monocular. Manual gain control allows operators to have full control of the trade-off between detail and image brightness.

The monocular has a built-in IR illuminator that casts infrared light on your targets for visibility in total darkness. For convenience and stealth in tactical applications, the device has an activation status indicator and an automatic off function when you turn it up or take off your headgear. The 1x lens system, upgradable to higher magnifications with optional lenses, has a wide 40° field of view and a minimal focusing distance of 10".

The housing is made of a lightweight and impact-resistant polymer that is fog and waterproof for use in adverse conditions and extreme temperatures. To prevent a spill-over of light from the intensifier tube and to provide a comfortable cushion between your eye and the eyepiece, the eyepiece has a wide rubber eye cup. The ergonomic body has knurled adjustment rings and a 1/4"-20 socket for mounting on a tripod.

Q: 4. Will I be able to look at stars and ufos in the night?

A: I think that for that you need a third generation, although maybe it can be useful

Q: 5. I haven't successfully taken a photo. Each time I do, it says the battery is low, even though they are new batteries, which I then tested to be sure they were good. What can I do about that?

A: If it happens with any battery you use. There could be a problem with the battery sensor in the monocular

Q: 10. I'm looking for a hobby-grade digital night vision specifically to record feral cats. I'm working with other people in the neighborhood (urban) to create a map of feral cats to eventually trap-neuter-return all of them. So I'm wondering if Night Owl Optics xGenPro 3-6x Digital Night Vision Monocular is the right choice for short-range video recording in the dark. Image clarity needs to be good enough to identify the cats in the area (their faces, fur patterns, ear-tips, etc.) from, say, 5 to 30 yards. Or would something like Bushnell 4.5x40 Equinox Z be better for my purpose? Thank you!

A: Yes, the Bushnell 4.5x40 Equinox Z has a 4.5x Optical Magnification, so it will be much better resolution & clarity than a digital zoom.
