Easily combine SDI and HDMI components in your video setup with the Micro Converter Bidirectional SDI/HDMI 3G from Blackmagic Design. This compact bidirectional converter can simultaneously convert SDI to HDMI and vice versa, even when using different standards, and it supports resolutions up to DCI 2K in SDI and 1080p60 in HDMI. It also offers camera control conversion for Blackmagic HDMI cameras like the BMPCC 4K or 6K, enabling you to use them with an SDI-based live switcher. The Micro Converter Bidirectional SDI/HDMI 3G features HDMI timecode support, SDI re-clocking for stability over long cable runs, support for a wide range of pro broadcast resolutions including cine-style 48 fps, and both HDMI and SDI embedded audio input and output.

This pocket-sized converter features a sturdy metal housing with power and signal LED status indicators and rugged connector interfaces. A USB Type-C port enables the Bidirectional SDI/HDMI converter to easily connect to and be powered by large-screen monitors, laptops, desktop computers, or projectors. You can also power this converter using the separately available 100-240 VAC power supply, complete with four international socket adapters.

Q: 1. Does this work with GoPros?

A: It will work with GoPros as long as you have an HDMI output from the GoPro.

Q: 2. Can this be used with the FX6 to send a RAW signal from its SDI to a Ninja V recorder HDMI input?

A: It cannot. This will not process a RAW signal. There is no converter like this which would work for this function. You will need the Shogun 7 which processes a RAW SDI signal for use with the FX6.

Q: 3. Can this input at 24p and output at 60p? What is the latency?

A: No, the BMD Micro Converter will not change the frame rate of the video signal. The converter has less than a single line of delay in most cases. However, depending on the signals you are converting, it could be up to a single frame at most.

Q: 4. I have a Panasonic HC-X2000. I would like to connect it in the following manner: camera (SDI) out to this converter SDI in, then HDMI OUT to a monitor & SDI LOOP OUT to ATEM SDI PRO ISO. Is this possible? I'm currently only getting a signal on the monitor (HDMI IN).

A: That set-up should work. Contact Blackmagic or B&H support if the problem persists.

Q: 5. Does the device support using both conversion options at the same time? i.e all ports are being used

A: The Blackmagic Design Micro Converter Bidirectional SDI/HDMI 3G does not support both conversion options at the same time.

Q: 6. Reclock: Does this reclock SDI to SDI?

A: Yes, the Blackmagic Design Micro Converter Bidirectional SDI/HDMI 3G (with Power Supply) will reclock SDI to SDI.

Q: 7. Does this work with the BMD Studio Micro camera control. The same way as with the Pocket cameras?

A: At the moment it does not. This will be addressed in a future update.

Q: 8. what does wPSU benefit me ? why would i pick wPSU overt non-wPSU ?

A: The power supply unit would provide power to the USB-C port of the Black Magic Micro converter. You will need it if you do not have another solution for providing power.

Pretty easy to figure out. Slight drawback is it need a power supply & to be plugged in, but other than that it's great & easy to figure out. HDMI In/Out to SDI In/Out & vice versa. 5

I like that you can use it either way, it is limited to what it can do, but convert from HDMI to SDI or vice versa is really usefull tool and to 3G SDI Level A or B 5

I now have four of these guys. I use SDI for longer video runs for streaming events, but these bidirectional versions add a loop out capability that makes it even better. They're tiny little workhorses for all things video, plus I don't have to sort out which one's the transmitter and which one's the receiver. 5

I bought this primarily to use the feature of being able to apply a LUT to the output, to help with matching cameras. It did a pretty good job on my initial tests, but I haven't actually put it in place yet, due to other things taking precedence. I only tested it with HDMI when I was at home, but we will be using it SDI, so still need to verify that works as well as the HDMI appears to. 5

This is an easy way to convert HDMI to SDI. There is no setting up. Just power the device up and connect the cables. Great transmission of a 1080P signal. 5
