Bright and sleek, the black Speedmaster 17mm f/0.95 from Mitakon Zhongyi is a unique wide-angle prime for Micro Four Thirds mirrorless cameras. This 34mm-equivalent lens is distinguished by its impressive f/0.95 maximum aperture, which excels in low lighting and also helps to control depth of field for isolating subject matter using selective focus. An optimized optical design also helps to render imagery with a high degree of sharpness and clarity and a rounded eight-blade diaphragm contributes to a pleasing bokeh quality.

The physical construction of the lens revolves around its manual focus design, which is complemented by printed depth of field and distance scales for zone focusing techniques. The manual aperture ring also features a click-less design for silent, smooth operation that is beneficial to video recording applications.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Will this lens work on Fuji xt 4 or do you need converter?

A: The Fujifilm cameras use a different mount than the one on this lens. This would not mount directly on the Fujifilm cameras. This is also designed for a smaller size sensor. We do not have any lens adapters to adapt Micro Four Thirds Lenses to the Fujifilm X mount.

Q: 2. Is the lens compatible with the E-M1 Mk2?

A: The Mitakon Zhongyi Speedmaster 25mm f/0.95 Lens for Micro Four Thirds is compatible with the Olympus E-M1 MKII, as a totally manual lens with no electronic communication.

Q: 3. Does it come with a lens hood? If not any recommendations for one?

A: 43mm generic lens hood will work. Google it.

Q: 4. Since this has a extruded rear element would this fit on a GH-4 body?

A: I bought this for my GH4 and works fine, beautiful lens!

Q: 5. Does it have auto-iris? That is, can I focus with the lens wide open, even if the camera is set to shoot at (say) f/2.8? I had some old manual lenses that need to be stopped down manually after focusing wide open. Is this one of those?

A: No, there is no auto iris functionality on this lens. You probably would not need it as the m43 cameras EVF should auto gain to the point you can see the correct exposure. This should aid in proper use of peaking and magnification for the manual focus confirmation.

Q: 6. There is quite a price gap between the black and silver versions. Are there any differences other than color between the two?

A: Not that I know of! I know the silver doesn't match silver body from Olympus- PEN-F and OMD's, maybe that's why.

Q: 7. does the aperture ring work on Olympus OM-D E-Mx cameras?

A: Put your camera on manual and set the shutter speed in camera. Use the aperture ring on the lens to manually set stop.

Q: 8. Would this lens fit a Sony 7i or 9i camera?

A: I seriously doubt it. The Speedmaster has a Micro Four Thirds mount. I'm not familiar with Sony cameras, but I am pretty sure they have their own mount configuration. There MAY be available a lens mount adapter for the Sony body to M43 lenses. I would suggest you try Google or ask a camera expert. Sorry for not being able to help more.

Q: 9. Will this work with Canon M50 (mirrorless) or Canon 5DS (USA version)?

A: I am only using it with Panasonic cameras.

Q: 10. Does this mount onto the Lumix G9?

A: Yes, the Lumix G9 will adapt to the Mitakon zhongyi speedmaster 25mm f/0.95 which is a micro four thirds lens.

I am not a pro-photographer, and use this lens to stream with my ZCam 4c camera. Works well for that purpose, and in my opinion, the image quality is great.

Fast, fun lens. Great for low light and bokeh. Very sharp.

This is a manual lens which I bought on sale. It has an aperture of .95 which makes it a real go-to choice.

This lens is one of the most dense little things I have ever held (and actually not that little). It is, however a remarkable lense. The lense takes sharp, defined, and well contrasted images with a workable focal plane, not a circle in the middle of the frame. You only have to stop it down if you want to increase the focal plane. You might not have it on you always because of the weight, but you will be glad when you do.

I bought this lens on the back of several reviews on YouTube. I was not disappointed. I have been able to take pictures in low light without much difficulty and recently created a video of a local folk group during a nighttime performance. Very little noise and lovely crisp pictures/video.
I haven't taken it off the camera since I bought it as it is such a delight to work with. Would highly recommend it to anyone as it is incredibly priced for the quality you get.

A quality lens for the price, sharp images, bright in low light, great DOF. DOF is actually too extreme for some shots, but works well in the right shot. I enjoy these manual controls. I will use this more for stills, and likely stick with my Lumix 12-60 Dual OIS lens for video most of the time. Using this lens makes me more interested in going out to shoot and try interesting shots, and that pushes me to better results.

For a tiny, $350 f/0.95 lens (that I bought used from B&H for $280 in flawless condition), this lens is more than sharp enough for general photography and videography on a 20MP Micro Four Thirds sensor. It has a bit of chromatic aberration at f/0.95 and it's prone to moderate flaring and loss of contrast when shooting against bright light sources, but the ultra-fast maximum aperture, full-frame equivalent depth of field of about f/2 (rounded up from f/1.9), and good resolution that can be squeezed out of this lens, for just $350 brand new, make those shortcomings more than tolerable. This lens hardly adds any weight to my camera bag, and it handles very well when attached to my Panasonic G9, despite being almost completely made of metal and feeling quite solidly built. My only minor gripe with this lens is that the aperture ring turns smoothly, without clicks to lock into the various available aperture settings, but I bought this lens to shoot at f/0.95, and that's where it lives for most of the time I use it, so this isn't a tremendous issue for me.
